Historical Tidbit: Eggsellent!
The tradition of painting hard-boiled eggs during springtime predates Christianity. In many cultures around the world, the egg is a symbol of new life, fertility and rebirth and has long been associated celebrating spring. For thousands of years, Iranians and others have decorated eggs on Nowruz, the Iranian New Year that falls on the spring equinox. Ancient pagans in Europe also observed the Spring Equinox as the return of the sun god — a rebirth of light and an emergence from the lean winter and painted eggs as part of that celebration.
From a Christian perspective, Easter eggs are said to represent Jesus’ emergence from the tomb and resurrection. Decorating eggs for Easter is a tradition that dates back to at least the 13th century, according to some sources. One explanation for this custom is that eggs were formerly a forbidden food during the Lenten season, so people would paint and decorate them to mark the end of the period of penance and fasting, then eat them on Easter as a celebration.
Symbolism of the Easter Egg
  • An egg is a symbol of rebirth. According to Christian beliefs, Jesus rose from the dead on Easter, the egg, the symbol of rebirth commemorated that.
  • Easter eggs are also meant to represent the empty tomb.

Dear Friends,
I want to let you know of an opportunity to support BSU students. The money raised will be going to scholarships and paid Internships for BSU students. So many of our students have received great experience and job offers by working as Interns. BSU students are hardworking with most students paying their own way working 2 and 3 jobs. We know it is very difficult for them to take on an unpaid Internship. That is why we are committed to funding our student Interns so they will not miss the opportunity. The scholarships we offer assist many of our students to stay in school and graduate – when financially, they may not have been able to complete their education. Please see the announcement below. You do not need to wait until April 24 th  or 25 th  to give!
Thanks! Susan McCombe,
Director, University and Community Partnerships
Save the date for our 4th Annual Day of Giving!
For 1840 minutes, starting at 2pm April 24 through 8:40 pm April 25, we will share stories about the #FacesOfBSU on Bridgewater and Alumni Relations' official social media channels. The faces you will see in our campaign are current students, faculty and staff, and alumni. These individuals all have their own stories and have faced triumphs and tribulations, leading them to persevere and come out stronger.
The stories behind #FacesOfBSU remind us why we give and the lifelong impact we have as a result. We have been in current students’ spots and recognize the power of community. Mark your calendar for Giving Day 2019 on  Facebook  and be sure to RSVP to our virtual event!
We encourage you to use #BSUGives and #FacesOfBSU on social media and share our messages with your friends and family.
Please consider making an  online donation  to one of our many worthy funds. We can make a difference one student at a time.

Rebirth.

We feel it in the air. We hear it in the bird's chirping, see the buds on the trees, the first flowers ~ Our souls, long asleep, are greeted by the warming sun.

Time to become you. To break out of your shell and emerge.

"Life is a gift, and it offers us the privilege, opportunity, and responsibility to give something back by becoming more." ~ Tony Robbins

"And finally I twist my heart round again, so that the bad is on the outside and the good is on the inside, and keep on trying to find a way of becoming what I would so like to be, and could be, if there weren't any other people living in the world." ~ Anne Frank
The key to becoming you, is to love who you are. Once you do that, life is miraculous.

Enjoy your rebirth. ~ Jacquie
