Message from the Principal
Dear DHS Staff, Students, and Families,

One of the most rewarding parts of my job is witnessing our students grow into leadership roles while at DHS. Over the past few weeks, it has been a joy to watch our senior advisors support freshman advisories, club presidents organize meetings, athletic team captains motivate teammates, and much more! Congratulations to our amazing students who have risen to the occasion and have taken on these important roles and responsibilities.

With that said, students don't have to wait for a leadership role until they are seniors or until they have a formal title. All students can become leaders, even in informal ways, whether by engaging with a group in the classroom, supporting a friend, engaging in a club, fighting for a cause, volunteering, helping out at home...the list goes on and on.

Below, you will find several opportunities for students to engage in clubs, sports, counseling groups, and village committees, which will support leadership opportunities for our students. I look forward to seeing our students thrive this school year!

Sincerely,
Principal Kathryn Anderson

PSAT/NMSQT for Juniors
The PSAT/NMSQT is an optional standardized test that juniors may take in the fall. Like the SAT, it measures the knowledge and skills in reading, writing, and math students learn in the classroom. Additionally, this test serves as the qualifying exam for the National Merit Scholarship Program. Juniors who score very well enter the National Merit Scholarship competition.

DHS will be offering the PSAT/NMSQT to juniors only on October 13, 2021. Any junior who wishes to take the exam must fill out the PSAT NMSQT google form (below) by September 22, 2021, by 5:00 p.m. This optional standardized test is free.

Juniors and parents/guardians, please check your email for additional details about the PSAT/NMSQT.

*Please note: The PSAT will also be given to freshmen and sophomores in the spring. Additional details to be provided closer to the test date.
Counseling Corner
Jumpstart Support Group
Is your student struggling with establishing a school routine? We understand that making the transition from remote learning back into the classroom can be challenging, especially related to social/emotional well-being. We want to ensure that students who are facing these challenges have support. The counseling department has established a new group called "Jumpstart” that will give students an opportunity to work through the transition from remote learning to in-person learning with their peers.

If this is something your student would be interested in, please contact Ms. Wagner (School Social Worker) at [email protected]
or Ms. Anagnostopoulos (School Social Worker) at [email protected] or your student’s school counselor.
Breathe Group
Does stress or anxiety affect your student's life? If so, encourage your student to join Breathe Group, an 8-week support group focused on coping strategies for managing stress & anxiety.

Students can access the sign-up form in the email they recently received about Breathe Group.

Please have your student contact their counselor with questions.

District News
E&I Community Engagement Series
On behalf of District 113, we are pleased to announce the E&I Community Engagement Series. At District 113, the work of equity and inclusion is strengthened when community members can be involved; the benefits of that collaboration are an enriched school setting, a thriving student body, and a brighter future for each individual. We also recognize that our school district exists in an ever-changing world and that our understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion must grow and evolve.

Let’s come together on Thursday, September 30th to listen to and work with each other as we explore these terms and our lived experiences. Our Director of Equity & Inclusion, Mirah Anti, will facilitate this event which will be held on Zoom, from 6:30-7:30 pm. If you are interested in attending, please complete this form, and if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Mirah Anti
