President's Message
            A Message from BPRS-LA

We have so much to be excited about this year! It's NBPRS 20th anniversary and the Los Angeles Chapter continues to deliver amazing programs that serve the needs of our members and professionals throughout Southern California.

Our partners have been key and we've joined forces with several professional organizations, agencies, and brands that share our vision and goal of creating a more diverse communications industry. This month, in partnership with Ketchum, we're discussing how to best tell our stories through social media.

BPRS-LA not only focuses on professional development, but we also offer opportunities to feed the spirit. Our careers can be quite demanding so don't forget to take time for self-care. Join us for the upcoming event in August at Malibu Wine which will include a hike, wine tasting, and words of inspiration from a motivational life coach. You don't want to miss this!

BPRS-LA & Ketchum

Member Spotlight
Meet BPRS-LA Member: Nacilia McCarthy

My name is Nacilia McCarthy, I was born in Jamaica but grew up both in the islands and in Connecticut. I initially started out my career as a paralegal because I thought I wanted to become a lawyer. That quickly changed. I pursued a Bachelor's degree in Management studies and soon after started to work in banking.

That all changed for me during the height of the recession. I went back to school to pursue a second bachelor's degree in Communication technology with a minor in creative writing. So convinced that I was going to write for TV, I started to pursue opportunities that took me in that direction. During that time, I worked for four major networks, two shows and a creative agency (BET, CBS, NBC,PIVOT, Jerry Springer, Bold and the Beautiful,  Dixon Creative). I also went on to work for Promaxbda (the Oscar's for Promos). I was also one of the fellows for Promaxbda Promo Pathways Program.

During my time I have picked up so many skills as well as expanded on the ones I already had. Presently, I work as a digital creative producer for the Act One group (mostly producing corporate videos and presentations, as well events) and I also help run a small production company with two colleagues based in DC. I am also the executive producer for a podcast called Black and Behind the Scenes.

I recently started learning creative coding and I am now looking to crossover into interactive producing.
