GSSCC Announces: Small Business Peer Network

GSSCC is excited to announce a new resource for small businesses: the Small Business Peer Network.

This new peer network is designed to provide small business owners the opportunity to connect and learn from each other, ask questions, and share best practices.  Peer network members will meet monthly for discussions in the Chamber offices. While education will be a strong component of this group, speakers, and presentations will be limited in order to focus on discussion around individual business challenges. This is not intended to be a sales environment, so team leaders will facilitate the discussions to ensure a balanced and respectful conversation.

Interested in joining this new peer group? Because this network is designed specifically for small business owners, we are asking interested members to fill out this short application. Our Small Business Peer Network steering committee will review all applications. Once approved, applicants will be given a link to register for monthly meetings.
* During April, Child Abuse Prevention Month, The Tree House Child Advocacy Center will use its Facebook and Instagram feeds to raise awareness of the work it does for sexually abused, physically abused, and neglected children in our county, by sharing daily posts that chronicle the story of "Aaron" as he embarks on a journey toward healing. Learn more about the Center here.

* In honor of Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month and co-owner Kyle Narsavage's mother Paula, GreenSweep will donate one percent of total revenue generated during April to the Parkinson's Foundation and will match up to $2,000 donated by employees, customers, vendors, suppliers, family and friends. Click here to learn more.

* New GSSCC member Maryland Global Training Center is offering members a ten percent discount on any individual course; members that send four employees will receive the fifth registration for free. Learn more about this new member here.

WANTED: Books, Especially Children's Books

GSSCC's Young Professionals Network is asking all members to support its book drive now through the end of April to benefit CCI Health & Wellness Services.  Reading aloud is one of the most important things parents can do with their children. It helps children develop the early language and literacy skills needed to achieve academic success. Unfortunately, children in low-income, minority families face barriers that limit their access to books and frequency of reading, which delays early childhood literacy development. That's why CCI provides free books for all children to take home, each time they come to see the doctor. Help stock CCI's reading corner with books by collecting new or gently used books at your businesses all month long. Contact Jessica Wilson for more information.
StoryCorps Mobile Tour Coming To Silver Spring

In partnership with WAMU,  StoryCorps, a non-profit organization with the mission to offer people of all backgrounds the opportunity to record, share, and preserve stories about their lives, is bringing its mobile tour  to Silver Spring. Each year, StoryCorps visits cities and towns across the country to record the stories of the people who live there.  StoryCorps invites pairs of individuals - family, co-workers, partners, friends - to come to the mobile recording studio (which will be parked on Veterans Plaza next to the Civic Building from April 23 to May 22), to record a conversation about their stories.  Do you have a story to tell? Learn more here.
