We trust that our Knight families are doing well as we begin to settle into Distance Learning. We are amazed at the instruction and learning that is occurring on the Canvas platform (over 4,455 interactions last week in Skyward by students).
Using the variety of digital tools available such as Nearpod, Big Blue Button, virtual field trips, Kahoot, email, and the old fashion phone call, teachers are conducting conferences and connecting with their students on a daily basis. It was a steep and fast learning curve, but everyone has risen to the challenge. And with the support of our families, the standard of education established at Lake Nona Middle School will continue uninterrupted by the hurdles we face.
Please remember teacher office hours for extra support, our digital learning schedule for classroom interaction, and the weekly attendance quiz to outline the week's agendas.
Lastly, in this week's edition you will find some important reminders along with several highlights from a successful week. Please stay safe and follow all recommended precautions in the days ahead.

Student Assignment Expectation - Weekly Attendance Quiz
(very important)
All teachers will post an assignment on Monday detailing their expectations or outline for the week. Students are to acknowledge they understand the expectations by answering a one question assignment quiz for each class; this will serve as your attendance check-in. The answer is due by noon Friday of that week. Students will be marked absent if the weekly attendance quiz is not completed.

Knight Teacher Office Hours
Students and parents may need to get additional support or clarification on an assignment. LNMS teachers will be available during these posted office hours.

Knight Digital Learning Schedule
The following schedule allows LNMS to provide dedicated time to each content area. Some teachers may choose to interact with live teaching sessions and live help support during the window of time. Students can follow this schedule in order to ensure a class is not missed throughout the week.

Knight Meals
Some school sites for the free Grab-and-Go meals are consolidating based on participation and a few new sites are opening (
Lake Nona High School is now open). The meals are for children 18 and under. Please check
www.ocps.net for the location updates. The distribution hours are from 10:00 a.m.to 1:00 p.m.

Effectively
immediately, the United States Department of Agriculture released a nationwide parent pick-up waiver, which allows parents, guardians, or older siblings to obtain student meals without the student present.
|

 Lake Nona Middle School clubs and 6th grade students have sponsored activities with the Orlando VA Hospital to boost the morale of our veterans this past year. Their veterans are isolated from friends and family during the COVID-19 coronavirus social distancing.
Our VA contact,
Ronnie DeNoia, expressed that their needs are multiplying especially for iPads so the vets in the domiciliary and in the CLC can maintain some outside contact. We are posting the Go Fund Me link to assist in purchasing tools to make this isolation better for our true superheros again.

7th Grade Civics with Ms. Durkin
Students were directed to create two scenes to represent two different forms of government. They were to use any objects they could find around the house (like spoons, gummy bears, stuffed animals, spice jars, etc.) and we saw it all! Students then created a presentation explaining the two forms of government they chose and what the objects in their scenes represent.

Physical Education
As a physical education assignment, students were asked to create or learn a dance routine as a way to be active. Seventh grade student
Manuella Gonzalez created a fun routine to the song "Party Rock Anthem" and even included her two dogs as they danced around the house to the upbeat music! Many students have enjoyed this assignment and have included family members to dance around and have fun while learning from home.
