Today kicks off the celebration of Hispanic-Latinx Heritage Month. The Women's Center will be collaborating with El Centro to host conversations on the experiences of Latina and Hispanic women.

The first event is a Salary Negotiation workshop on September 21st at 5PM in El Centro where we will talk about the gender pay gap and its impacts on Latina and Hispanic women. Then participants will learn how to negotiate for the salary and benefits they deserve.
Our second collaboration will be a hybrid panel discussing the representations and erasures of women in the Latin American culture and literature from varied disciplinary perspectives and periods, as well as the challenges of including literature written by women in our academic curricula

Panelist will include: Elizabeth Austin (Spanish, MCLL), Catalina Andrango-Walker (Spanish, MCLL), Javiera Jaque (Spanish, MCLL), Dominque Polanco (Religion and Culture)

Panel will be hosted in El Centro and via Zoom on September 23rd at 5PM.
A message regarding campus crime alerts
Since the beginning of the semester, the Blacksburg campus community has received multiple alerts concerning sexual assaults that have occurred on our campus. By providing students and employees with timely access to critical campus crime and safety information, Virginia Tech is enhancing safety and security for all those at the university. Many of these incidents occurred at large community events — a time when we should have been welcoming each other back to campus and celebrating the start of a new academic year.
