Edmonton's emerging arts festival has moved online this year. Watch performances of music, dance, theatre, film and more. Start and end times vary but are generally 6-11 p.m. 
TAI CHI PRACTICE

Join a Tai Chi drop-in group that meets at CLSA to practice. Meet in the southeast corner of the CLSA parking lot and practice will take place on the east side of the building on the concrete patio.

The group tries to set up the next practice after each session, based on the weather forecast and trying to keep to Fridays at the same time. Practice may be cancelled due to poor weather conditions.

If you choose to join in this activity please remember to use social distancing. CLSA accepts no liability, the building is closed and folks have to assess their own personal risks in participating.

MEAL PACKAGE IN HONOUR OF SENIORS' WEEK
St. Basil's Cultural Centre and Strathcona Place Society

St. Basil's Cultural Centre has worked with Strathcona Place Society to create a special dinner bundle which includes seven dinner packages. Each package contains an entre and dessert. The entire bundle costs $75. Review the menu to see what tasty meals are included.

Call St. Basil's Cultural Centre at 780-434-4288 to place your order. Cash, cheque or e-transfer is accepted for payment. Orders must be placed in advance before pick up. Meals can be picked up at 10819 71 Avenue. Order before Saturday, June 13. Anyone is welcome to order.
WORLD ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS DAY POSTCARD 

In recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15, the Elder Abuse Consultation Team (EACT) created a postcard to bring attention to the experience of elder abuse and the Seniors Abuse Helpline. The High Level Bridge will also be lit in purple on June 15 in honour of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

Established in Edmonton in 1998, EACT is a collaborative network of professionals representing a variety of organizations and institutions in Edmonton who directly or indirectly work with seniors experiencing elder abuse. The goal of EACT is to ensure that older adults who are experiencing abuse, or at risk of abuse, receive informed, appropriate services and supports from community agencies and professionals. EACT accomplishes this by providing a forum for professionals to collaborate and consult on cases of elder abuse.
WORLD ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS DAY - PLANT A SEED FOR CHANGE

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is June 15 and CNPEA is urging Canadians to join the conversation online. To participate, plant a seedling or a flower, take a photo/video and post to so social media. Make sure to tag CNPEA on Facebook and Twitter so they can see your message. In addition to your photo/video, include a message to express your commitment to bring about change for the care, support, and well-being of older adults. 
TRANSIT FARE COLLECTION RESUMES JUNE 15

Starting June 15, Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) will resume fare collection on buses, LRT and DATS.
  • From June 15 - 30, customers that have a March, April or July monthly transit pass can use that as payment. Those without a pass can use cash, tickets, valid transfers and family/day passes as payment
  • From July 1 - 31, April or July monthly transit passes will be accepted, as well as cash, tickets, valid transfers and family/day passes. ETS will not be producing June monthly passes, nor doing any pass exchange.
Paper transfers will resume, as proof of payment, when paying with cash or tickets.

Also starting June 15, customers should board the bus through the front door. Enhanced Saturday service remains for buses and LRT until further notice.

This can prevent a large array of injuries including sprained ankles and serious knee problems. Balance is important as you age and can be practiced daily or as often as possible. FRIENDSHIP ONLINE: A MOBILE APP TO TACKLE SOCIAL ISOLATION

A new mobile app called Amintro is helping to tackle social isolation among seniors by providing camaraderie through peer-to-peer networking. New members answer a series of questions about their background and interests: Do they like walks or movies? Do they have grandchildren? Where did they grow up and where do they live now? After answering the questions, the apps algorithms work to connect the user to other nearby app users with similar profiles.

Listen to upbeat music and commentary on a new online radio station called Radio Recliner. The bonus is that all the DJs are older adults living in senior living communities across the United States!

IMPACT OF COVID-19 VOLUNTEER ENGAGEMENT SURVEY

Volunteer Canada, in collaboration with the Volunteer Management Professionals of Canada, needs your help to better understand the impact of COVID-19 on volunteer engagement. If you represent a non-profit organization, if you are a volunteer or you attempted to volunteer during COVID-19, they would like to hear from you. Complete the survey by June 8.

Understanding Newcomer Experiences of Inclusion (UNEOI)

Are you a newcomer to Canada? UNEOI wants to know your thoughts on your settlement process. You will get a $10 Tim Horton's gift card for completing the survey on newcomer inclusion in Alberta. 

The Understanding Newcomer Experiences of Inclusion (UNEOI) is a two-year community-based research project looking at newcomers' experiences of settlement, integration, and inclusion and how this impacts well-being. This is an opportunity for newcomers to share their experience, and contribute knowledge to the area of newcomer settlement in Alberta. For the purpose of the research, 'newcomers' are defined as immigrants and refugees who have lived in Canada for up to 10 years.

SENIORS COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND EXERCISE (SCOPE) TRIAL
University of British Columbia and the University of Victoria

Physical distancing has disrupted our typical activities for taking care of our well-being and health. This research project is investigating if different types of exercise programs, provided free to participants, significantly improve the well-being and health of older adults (aged 65 years or older) currently living in Canada. Explore fun, new ways to exercise and assist with critical research benefitting the health of older adults. It's a win-win!
