UC San Diego's "Return to Learn" Program Begins This Week
|
|
UC San Diego’s "Return to Learn" Program begins this week and will better position the campus to resume in-person activities in the fall.
The program aims to broadly test students, faculty and staff on campus on a recurring basis for presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19. This evidence-based program, which includes plans for contract tracing and isolation housing for on-campus resident students who test positive for the virus, is intended to better position UC San Diego to resume in-person activities when fall classes begin in September 2020.

A red tide offshore Southern California is bringing a funky smell during the day and a spectacular display of bioluminescence to beaches at night. From glowing waves seen at several San Diego beaches to swirls of electric blue light stirred by dolphins gliding through the water off Newport Beach, photos and videos of the phenomenon are making the rounds on social media. The Treble Singers Support the San Diego Foundation’s COVID-19 Relief Effort with Music

Established in 2010, the Treble Singers is an all-female a cappella ensemble at UC San Diego. They are currently asking for your help to support the San Diego Foundation's COVID-19 relief effort through music! The San Diego Foundation's COVID-19 Community Response Fund is rapidly deploying resources to nonprofit organizations that are supporting low-income workers, families and vulnerable communities most affected by the coronavirus crisis.

Alumni Lauren Yee, John-Andrew Morrison & Danny Burstein Win Outer Critics Circle Awards
|
|
With the Tony Awards remaining a mere possibility this year, the 70th Annual Outer Critics Circle Awards took an unusual approach to a pandemic-shortened theater season: In lieu of selecting traditional nominees with one winner from each category, the OCC recently named five honorees in each of its technical categories and up to six honorees in acting categories.
Three UC San Diego Theatre & Dance alumni were honored with Outer Critics Circle Awards this year:

won Outstanding New Off-Broadway Play,
John-Andrew Morrison
won Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play for

The San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle recently announced the recipients of their 44th Annual Excellence in Theatre Awards for the 2019 season.

Mother of the Maid
at Marin Theatre Company.

Broadway World Shines Spotlight on Alumna Halei Parker

MFA costume design alumna
Halei Parker
was recently the subject of
Broadway World Los Angeles'
"Spotlight Series" by Shari Barrett, which features interviews with some of the many talented artists who make the Los Angeles theatre community exciting and vibrant.
The interview focuses on Parker's work as a costume designer and educator. As Barrett writes, "Halei really opened my eyes to the possibilities for character interpretation that a costume designer can bring to a show."
