Message from the Chair
MCHC Chair 2018-19
Audrey Dunkel, JD
Vice President of Financial Advocacy, Kansas Hospital Association
MCHC Chairperson and Chair, Executive Committee

This month marks the end of my term as Chairman of the Mother & Child Health Coalition board of directors. This year brought big changes for the organization with the retirement of Susan McLoughlin, founding member and inaugural executive director of the organization – I’m sure Susan is on a sunny beach somewhere enjoying the sand and surf with her husband, Stephen. Her leadership and kindness made it a pleasure to serve as board chairman. I also want to thank the MCHC staff. First, for their hard work on Susan’s retirement reception – your affection and admiration for her shone in all your work to make it a memorable event! Second, for all of your support to me as chairman of the board. It was invaluable. April is Child Abuse Prevention Month
Now April is Also Safe Haven for Newborns Month in KS and MO!
The Metro KC Safe Haven for Newborns Coalition is pleased to announce that Governors Laura Kelly of Kansas and Mike Parson of Missouri have both declared April 2019 as Safe Haven for Newborns Month. Be sure to thank them both for helping increase awareness of this life-saving law! Several other states have also done this. As far as we know they are Illinois, New York, Tennessee and Florida. Next year, we hope to obtain a national proclamation.
