FAR's GTech Course Helps Youth Find Employment in IT
Thanks to one of FAR's Gyumri Information Technology Center (GTech) recent projects, more promising young people have secured jobs at some of Armenia's leading IT companies. Called "Boosting Technological Developments," it aims to support development of the region through skills enrichment of young and vulnerable populations. About 80 students can participate at a time in the course, which has a corresponding internship. Most who complete it have already found employment. Nvard Martirosyan, 23, was studying finance when she got interested in programming and heard about a new GTech course. She interned at Chessify and now works there as an IOS programmer. Holy Week Services at St. Mary
As Lent draws to a close, the Armenian Church looks forward to the beginning of Holy Week, which will culminate in the Easter Sunday celebration on April 21.
At St. Mary Armenian Church, Holy Week will be observed April 14 through April 21.
On
Sunday, April 14 the Palm Sunday celebration will begin with Holy Badarak and followed by Opening of Doors Service (Trnpatsek). ACYOA Luncheon and Program will take place at the church hall after the church services.
On Thursday, April 18 the Great and Holy Thursday celebration will begin with the Holy Badarak and Washing of the Feet service at 6:00 pm.
After a short break
The Order of the Betrayal and Passion will take place.
On Friday, April 19 the Great and Holy Friday the order of the Crucifixion will be conducted at 12:30 pm and the church will be open for prayers until 3:00 pm.
In the evening
T
he Order of the Entombment of our Lord
will take place at 7:00 pm.
On Holy Saturday, April 20 Easter Eve celebration will begin with Evening Service and Bible readings at 6:00 pm, followed by Jrakalooyts Badarak.
The Traditional Home Blessing
service and reception will follow Badarak in the church hall.
On Easter Sunday, April 21 Fr. Hovsep Karapetyan will celebrate the liturgy and deliver the homily. Immediately following the service traditional egg-cracking and reception will take place at the church hall hosted by Shnorhali Armenian School.

Old Wound, New Pathway
Wednesday, April 24, will be observed by the worldwide Armenian Church as the "Feast of the Holy Martyrs of the Armenian Genocide." During the centennial year of the Armenian Genocide, the martyrs of 1915 were ceremonially recognized as holy saints. With their canonization, the Genocide martyrs joined other great exemplars of holiness, virtue, and sacrifice, in the "canon" of revered saints from church history.

Madagh and a Musical Memorial Program "The Resurrection of a Nation" by the Shnorhali School's Dance Group at St. Mary Church Hall.
Luncheon and Madagh is hosted by the Parish Council

Palm Sunday at St. Mary Church
Over the Palm Sunday weekend the Dean and Students of St. Nersess Seminary visited our community. The entire weekend was filled with interesting activities. The Seminarians and members of St. Mary ACYOA Juniors enjoyed the hospitality of Souren and Ema Hakopian, who opened their doors for an evening of fun and fellowship for our guests. It was a great opportunity for our Juniors to meet the seminarians in person, mingle with them, ask them questions, and learn about their day at the seminary and about their future plans.
On Saturday, the seminarians had a private tour of the Museum of the Bible and also had an opportunity to do additional site-seeing in Washington, DC. On Palm Sunday the Rev. Fr. Mardiros Chevian, Dean of St. Nersess Seminary celebrated Badarak and the Seminarians served on the altar alongside the St. Mary Acolytes and Deacons.
A beautiful luncheon was organized and hosted by the St. Mary ACYOA Juniors and their parents. This year our special honoree during the Palm Sunday luncheon was Mrs. Patricia Yeghissian, youth adviser, Sunday School teacher and dedicated parishioner. The ACYOA Juniors honored her with a musical performance, special prepared remarks, and a plague to commemorate her service to the youth of St. Mary. Our special appreciation goes out to the ACYOA Juniors parents and teens for their hard work.

Our beloved Women's Guild never cease to amaze the church community with their annual and much anticipated Easter choreg sale. Somehow they make their beautiful and delicious holiday presentation look effortless, and we are forever grateful for their continued hard work and dedication to St. Mary Church and the congregation.

"Grazie Italia"
On April 10, the Italian Parliament's lower house approved a motion calling on its government to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide.
"Italy is finally recognizing one of the most sinister pages in the history of mankind," said parliamentarian Massimiliano Capitanio of Italy's ruling Lega party, who leads the Italian-Armenian inter-parliamentary friendship group. "No economic or diplomatic excuse should ever allow us to avoid saying the exact name for the massacre of innocent people. It was a genocide-and so it should be written in the history books."
Existing legislation in Italy makes genocide denial a crime, with punishments including fines and imprisonment. The Armenian Mirror-Spectator posted a short video digest of the Italian Parliament's vote. Click here to watch.

Welcome Our New Bishop on May 18
On Saturday, May 18, a special Divine Liturgy at St. Vartan Armenian Cathedral in New York, will mark the return of our Primate to the U.S., following his ordination as a bishop of the Armenian Church.
The newly-ordained Bishop Daniel Findikyan will celebrate his first episcopal Divine Liturgy among the faithful of the Eastern Diocese, beginning at 10 a.m. It will be followed by a reception in the Diocesan Center's Haik and Alice Kavookjian Auditorium. Click here to view a flyer.
That evening, St. Nersess Seminary will hold a special tribute event to benefit the seminary and its ongoing mission. The banquet titled "Hope and Gratitude" honors the former and current presidents of the seminary board of directors-Archbishop Khajag Barsamian and Bishop-elect Daniel Findikyan.
