In 2002, Dallas founded Dallas Mercer Consulting (DMC) offering Disability Management services. As an employer advocate, she added efficiency to sick leave and workers’ compensation claims processes; saving clients time and money and allowing them to focus on their core business. DMC has expanded to offer Safety Training, Safety Consulting, and Industrial Hygiene services to over 550 clients across Canada. DMC has offices in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador.

Additional Provincial Co-Parenting Supports Now Available
The Co-parenting Action Team (CAT) is an interdepartmental program that will offer personalized supports to help parents address the   co-parenting  challenges they are experiencing during the COVID-19 pandemic and connect them with appropriate government and community programs and services.

The Departments of Justice and Public Safety of Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia have also partnered to offer Island families the  Positive Parenting from Two Homes  course online. This free of charge program can support parents gain a greater understanding of their and their children’s needs through the separation or divorce process. Through this online program, participants will develop strategies to address topics such as:
  • Parenting plans;
  • Decision-making;
  • Managing and reducing conflict;
  • Mediation;
  • Developing relationship with the other parent;
  • Family violence; and
  • Legal information

Development of the Provincial Table to Protect Rights of Children and Youth
The mandate of the PEI Children and Youth Table is to engage children and youth, including children in care and in provincial facilities, to identify issues and potential solutions to areas of concern related to children and youth on Prince Edward Island, as well as review programs developed in response to COVID-19 using a child rights-based approach to identify potential challenges.

Key objectives of the provincial table include: 
  • Establish the need and priorities for children and youth;
  • Address gaps and areas of concern related to children and youth; 
  • Identify supportive structures and processes for children and youth; 
  • Facilitate assessment and engagement; and,
  • Ensure monitoring evaluation and reporting related to matters concerning children and youth.

COVID-19 – Workspace Adaption Assistance Fund

The COVID-19 - Workspace Adaption Assistance Fund provides a non-repayable contribution toward the cost of implementing a COVID-19 Operational Plan . Maximum Fund contribution of $2,000 (based on 75% of Eligible Project Costs).

This Fund contributes to costs (retroactive to March 16, 2020) that are directly related to implementing safety measures of a COVID-19 Operational Plan, including but not limited to:
  • Physical changes to workplaces specifically for the purpose of protecting employees and customers (examples: plexiglass dividers, new walls or dividers, new entryway systems, construction labour, intercom and communication systems).
  • Purchase of equipment (examples: hand sanitizer stations, sterilizing equipment, portable handwash stations).
  • Engineering and design services related to the changes required for the Covid-19 Operational Plan.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (examples: gloves, masks, face shields, gowns, hand sanitizer).
  • COVID-19 specific signage (examples: directional and physical distancing signs, floor decals, and health and wellness signs).

Prime Minister announces additional support for Canadian seniors
Announced a series of additional measures to help Canadian seniors and provide them with greater financial security in this time of crisis. These measures include:

  • Providing additional financial support of $2.5 billion for a one-time tax-free payment of $300 for seniors eligible for the Old Age Security (OAS) pension, with an additional $200 for seniors eligible for the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS). This measure would give a total of $500 to individuals who are eligible to receive both the OAS and the GIS, and will help them cover increased costs caused by COVID-19. 
  • Expanding the New Horizons for Seniors Program with an additional investment of $20 million to support organizations that offer community-based projects that reduce isolation, improve the quality of life of seniors, and help them maintain a social support network.
  • Temporarily extending GIS and Allowance payments if seniors’ 2019 income information has not been assessed. This will ensure that the most vulnerable seniors continue to receive their benefits when they need them the most
