Dear Saint Rose Families,

Today begins the Easter Triduum.  Yesterday at the school Mass Fr. Kidd explained the meaning of Spy Wednesday as Judas betrayed Jesus.  There are opportunities for worship throughout the next several days, beginning with the Mass of the Lord's Supper at 7pm this evening and culminating with the Easter celebrations on Sunday.

I hope that you and your family take the time to worship and celebrate Easter.

Sincerely,
Bryon Borgelt

HOLY THURSDAY & GOOD FRIDAY

Children's Procession

There will be a special procession at the conclusion of our Holy Thursday Mass on April 18th.  When it is time to transfer the Eucharist to St. Joesph's altar we would like children in grades 1-8 to lead the procession and carry flowers for the altar.  If your child is interested, please CLICK HERE to register.  All participants will receive an email with complete instructions before next Thursday.  Mass starts at 7:00p.m  that night and is one of the most beautiful liturgies of the year!  You don't want to miss it!

Pilgrimage to Seven Churches

At the end of the  Holy  Thursday liturgy, the Blessed Sacrament is removed from the main tabernacle and "reposed" in a side tabernacle in remembrance of Jesus' arrest.  The Roman Missal states, "The faithful are invited to continue adoration before the Blessed Sacrament for a suitable length of time during the night, according to circumstance."

A Catholic custom in many parts of the world is to visit the altars of repose at  Seven  Churches.  In Rome, this is somewhat easy as there are over 300  churches in the city!

For the past two years, Saint Rose Parishioners gathered after our  Holy  Thursday parish liturgy for a prayerful  pilgrimage to six other  churches to pray at the altars of repose.  We are once again offering this opportunity.  We will pray at the Saint Rose altar of repose and then proceed on a planned route to the other  churches

What a wonderful opportunity for families to pray together and explore the churches in our deanery.     You may drive yourself in your own vehicle or carpooling will be available.  An estimated time of return to Saint Rose is 11:30 pm.  Sometimes participants pray at 3-4 churches and then need to return home.  There is flexibility.  Please contact Anne Brahier at [email protected]  if you are interested in participating.  Thank you.

Trout Trip

Seventh and eighth grade students from the Trout in the Classroom class at Saint Rose Catholic School visited the Castalia Trout Hatchery.  They released the trout that had been hatched from eggs and grown to smolt size since January. The students had cared for the trout and their tank over the past several months.  While at the hatchery the students had a tour of the steelhead program for Ohio and feed some of the giant trout in Cold Creek.

Thank you to Mrs.Carrie Hoyt for chaperoning and taking photos.

Preschool Prepares for Palm Sunday

Last week, Mrs. Hoertz's 4 Year Old Preschool Classes prepared for Palm Sunday. They learned about Palm Sunday by reading a story about the crowds shouting, "Hosanna!" and treatingJesus like their king. They then made their own palm leaves out of construction paper. The children enjoyed waving them and saying, "Hosanna!"

Lenten Collection Thank You!

Today the Triduum begins with the Liturgy of the Lord's Supper at 7:00 pm Mass at Saint Rose.  Our Church recalls the Institution of the Eucharist and the example of service that Jesus modeled when he washed the apostles' feet.

At the Saint Louis Back to School Shoe Event in August, volunteers will wash the feet of the children and size them for their new pair of tennis shoes.  One volunteer shared this reflection:

"A younger girl approached shyly.  Her legs and feet were quite dirty which surprised me a bit for that early in the morning.   Washing the feet was more than just symbolic in the instance.  The cleansing waters removed the dirt just as the healing waters of Baptism removes our stains.   I just felt that so strongly as I saw and felt the dirt wash off her legs and feet. Some of the children were quite aware of Jesus washing the feet of the apostles.   Many families exhibited both humility and gratitude."

Thank you for your generous outpouring of donations of new shoes and socks.
We will use monetary donations to purchase more shoes.
We will report the total donations in two weeks so families may still contribute next week.

"But if I washed your feet -- I who am Teacher and Lord -- then you must wash each other's feet.  What I just did was to give you an example:
as I have done, so you must do."
John 13:14-15

5 MORE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Hello Saint Rose Families and Friends,

We would like to hold another  Junior  Achievement(JA) Day at Saint Rose again this school year.  As you may know, the first JA Day held in the 2017/18 school year was a tremendous success.  What makes a program like JA so successful are the volunteers.  We will need your support once again.

JA lessons and content focus on money management, critical thinking skills, problem solving, and entrepreneurship.  The individual lesson plans are thoughtfully prepared and designed for each grade, K-8.  As a class volunteer educator, your job is to deliver the content to your class, in the permitted time.  If you've never taught a JA class, it's not difficult and I can tell you from several years of experience that it can be very rewarding, for the students and for you.

Our JA Day at Saint Rose is scheduled for Thursday, May 9th.  The time allotted will be from 9am - 11:30am or 12noon (depending on the grade taught).  There will be a training session for all volunteers, on a date yet to be determined, prior to May 9th.

If you would like to volunteer, simply send me an email, including the grade preference you'd like to teach, and we'll get you signed up.  Keep in mind that the sooner you sign up, the better your chances of getting the grade you'd like to teach.  The spots will fill up quickly!  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

**Please note: Volunteers need to have their Virtus completed**

Thank you very much for your consideration, your support, and your work in helping to make Junior Achievement  available to the students at Saint Rose.

Regards,

Aaron Skolmowski
