Nervous about launching your boat this spring? Not sure what your boat really needs? The marina is here to help with all your spring services! Fill out a work order here and rest assured we'll get you going in the right direction.

Winter Shop Work

  It really ended up being the winter of the keel repair. Most of the major issues seem to be water making its way through the aging gel coat on some of the dry sailed boats that sail with no bottom paint or special water barrier. This created cracks and bubbles, that when you dig into them the gel coat and fiberglass would fall apart. After some solid grinding to get all the bad parts out it was time to build the fiberglass back up. This was done with layers of fiber and using the vacuum bag process in the deeper spots and some filler to strengthen and smooth out any deformities in the lower spots. If anyone has any rigging questions or about how to prevent the material breakdown feel free to swing by the shop and say hi.

Town Cleanup Day 

Saturday May 18th, 9:oo am-12:00 pm

Dillon Town Hall

Join the Town of Dillon as we divide and conquer to clean our streets, parks, sidewalks and other areas around town after the snow melt. Complimentary appreciation BBQ to follow. Meet at Dillon Town Hall at 9:00 am, grab some gloves, your trash bags and area assignments. Reconvene at Marina Park around 12:00 for the BBQ.  

Tips:

• Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty and comfortable walking shoes.
• Pick out a spot you see or walk every day and plan to do clean up there or be assigned to a location.
• Bring lots of family and friends - it makes the morning more fun.

In conjunction with Town Clean Up Day, join Friends of the Dillon Ranger District, Summit County Open Space and Trails, the Dillon Reservoir Recreation Committee, and the Summit Shuttle for a morning of litter clean up on the shores of Summit County's crown jewel, Dillon Reservoir. The water levels are low, submerged trash has been exposed, and we are chomping at the bit to get out and start doing some good on our National Forest lands. After finishing up we will join in on the Town Clean-up BBQ of our choosing for a celebration!

Choose one of four zones: Dillon Marina, Summit Cove, Farmer's Korner, or Frisco Bay!

Memorial Day Ceremony 

Monday May 27, 10:00 am- 12:00pm 

Dillon Cemetery 

Join us at the Dillon Cemetery for our annual Memorial Day of Remembrance Ceremony honoring those who've sacrificed all for our Freedom. Presented by Dillon's Cemetery Advisory Committee in cooperation with the town, the event will feature music by the Summit Concert Band. As has been a tradition in Dillon, the service will also feature an open microphone opportunity for members of the public to remember and honor someone special in their lives. 

Local Boy Scouts will be on hand to present the colors, as well as hold a flag retirement ceremony after the event. Members of the public are encouraged to bring old flags to have them retired properly.

From the Crow's Nest 

 

The core crew is back for the season! It takes a lot of work to get this party back on the water and it all starts at the launch ramp. We are punching holes in the ice and aerating to bring the relatively warmer water to the surface. 

The goal is to free A-dock and Rental dock from the ice, launch our rental fleet and utilize those boats to defend against the ice sheet. This is where we cross our fingers, toes, and everything else hoping that the main ice sheet does not come in and cause damage. Ice is a powerful thing! The hope is that the prevailing winds prevail, and the main ice sheet breaks up on the shore east of the marina. Once we deal with the ice, it's a race to set gangways, clean the place up and start launching boats. Mother Nature should be helping us next week with highs in the 50's and a welcome reprieve from winter. I am looking forward to seeing all of you again soon and getting down to what should be a fantastic summer here at the Dillon Marina.
