Tonight at 7:00pm

Our Maundy Thursday service is April 18th at 7:00 pm with the Holy Comforter Choir.

Maundy Thursday. What a strange name of a day of the week!

Maundy comes from the Latin word "mandatum" ("commandment"), referring to Christ's words "a new commandment I give you, that you love one another as I have loved you."

In this service we remember the Passover and the institution of the Eucharist as well as Jesus washing the feet of His disciples in one of His final acts of servant ministry. The Maundy Thursday liturgy concludes with the stripping of the altar .

The Journey to Becoming

a Deacon

Court Hooper is a postulant for Holy Orders in the Diaconate.  Here's what he has to share of his journey thus far:

"My formation is going according to plan; it's actually more like following a path.  I have completed reading one of two books for this section of my diaconal formation, Unexpected Consequences.  I have another book to read and a few papers to write.  I am working on my rule of life by forming a more defined prayer cycle that adds Morning Prayer.  I wish to add Compline at a later time to round out my day.

Starting April 28th, I will be shadowing Sandy Turner at Christ Church and then John Warner at St. Augustine. This enables me to learn more about being a deacon from two of the best in our area.   Although I will miss our congregation, I look forward to this opportunity to grow and come back home more confident, better prepared and more experienced to serve."

Blessings,
Court Hooper

Holy Comforter Fall Carnival

It's that time again...to start baking those cookies!

The next Kairos Retreat for the ladies at Leath Correctional in Greenwood, SC is April 25 - 28. As usual we will be taking loads and loads of cookies to distribute to the entire complex. So many of you have helped me reach my goal of 150 dozen cookies in the past and the ladies and I thank you.

If you would like to bake or buy cookies to donate for the retreat I will be picking them up at the church on Sunday, April 21 or Tues. April 23.  There are some new guidelines that the prison requires.
  1. Cookies can be bought or baked at home. (Homemade is nice but slice and bake is great too.)
  2. Cookies CANNOT CONTAIN any sort of fruit. (raisins, craisins, dried fruit of any kind)   Nuts are OK.
  3. Cookies CANNOT have any sprinkles, icing or powdered sugar on the top of them.
  4. Please package your home baked cookies in sleeves of a dozen each (like Ritz crackers) using either waxed paper or plastic wrap. Please do not package them until they are completely cooled or they will stick together.
  5. Purchased cookies (Oreos, Pecan Sandies, etc.) should be left in their package.
  6. Most important...pray over these cookies as you purchase them or bake them. Prayer is the basis for our time there.

Other ways to help . . .
  1. Prayers!!! Please sign up for the prayer chain on the list in the foyer or here. The prayer vigil is continuous from 4:00 PM on Thursday April 25 through 4:00 PM Sunday, April 28. This is a prayer vigil that you can do anywhere you are. Pray for the inmates, administration, staff and team members.
  2. Toiletries for indigent inmates. See list in foyer.
  3. Monetary donations are accepted and are tax deductible. Please make them out to Kairos of South Carolina. You can mail or give to Linda Bargeron - 12 Woodbridge Way, Evans, GA 30809
These donations enable us to take the Kairos program inside the prison and bring God's prayers to the ladies who attend. We will be hosting 42 ladies this time.

More Information . . .

Contact Linda Bargeron ( [email protected] or 706-267-8668) if you have any questions.

Thank you to all who came out and helped make Palm Crosses and stuff Easter Eggs!
