JVS Highlighted in The Boston Globe

JVS was highlighted on the front page of The Boston Globe this week. The article discusses measures that employers are taking to make low-wage jobs more attractive as they struggle to recruit new employees. JVS is working with our clients to help them reach new economic heights in the current labor market, and also partnering with employers to help them find new employees.  To read the full article, click here .

Celebrating National Volunteer Appreciation Week at JVS
We appreciate our volunteers every day, but National Volunteer Appreciation Week, which was April 8-12 this year, gave us the opportunity to show our volunteers how grateful we are for all the work they do. Throughout the week, we provided snacks and special activities at JVS for our volunteers as a token of our gratitude, and over 70 people participated. We also raffled off tickets to a Rod Sox game, and congratulations to ESOL volunteer Craig Miller who won the raffle! Earlier this month, we also hosted a Volunteer Appreciation Night at Scholars Bistro, and over 90 JVS volunteers and staff members joined together to celebrate the JVS community and our wonderful volunteers.

Faces of JVS: Adalberto Jaimes
Adalberto Jaimes is a Financial Empowerment Coach at JVS. He came to the United States from Colombia in 2000 with a law degree and almost no money. At the time, he knew very little English. Through hard work, he earned an Associate’s degree in Business from Union County College and earned sponsorship for his H1B visa and green card in New York City before coming to Boston. Through the JVS Citizenship Program, Adalberto was able to officially become a citizen of the United States this past month! He is grateful for all of the support that JVS has given him and intends to continue to make a positive contribution to his adoptive country through his work. His favorite parts about working at JVS are designing new tools that empower his clients to increase their financial literacy and watching them achieve their financial goals. He also enjoys working in a multicultural environment where he feels less self-conscious about his accent.
