President's Message
            A Message from BPRS-LA

Cue the applause .. and now as the lights dim... we begin to think about our own careers and goals.

As communications practitioners, we create disruptive strategies, incredible campaigns and produce astonishing ROIs with small budgets and achieve impressive analytics for clients and employers. We secure the win but often leave our own brand strategy and narrative to others.

Drive your narrative, run your personal brand as you do with your clients and employers! This month I challenge you to create your personal brand or rebrand yourself with simple things like new headshots, mind-blowing decks with vibrant color palettes, and stunning typography that either spotlight your professional achievements or client-centric services! Plan a promotional video shoot with a simple 30 second spot highlighting your accomplishments for your web and social media profiles. Linkedin is a great place to start!

As we celebrate our 20th Anniversary, our Los Angeles Black Public Relations Society chapter will rebrand this year, we look forward to growing together! Tag us in your social media posts!

Remembering Kenneth Reynolds
Kenneth Reynolds

BPRS-LA mourns the loss of PR veteran Kenneth Reynolds, who was an honoree at the 2nd Annual BPRS-LA Pat Tobin Awards in 2015.

As founder of Public Relations +, Reynolds' PR and marketing legacy includes a list of contemporary artists and icons spanning more than 30 years; Aretha Franklin, Cheryl Lynn, Roy Ayers, Taj Mahal, Donna Summer, Barry White, Kool and the Gang, Cameo, Stephanie Mills, Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight, and many others. Reynolds created the initial marketing plan that launched the career of pop diva Whitney Houston.

Kenneth Reynolds was always a warm and genuine person. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. We send heartfelt condolences to all of his family and friends.

Where were you born and raised?
Indiana

Current Position:
Owner - The Niche Agency

College Major:
 Legal Studies

Career field you're most passionate about and why?
I Love PR because you are the curator of the story and initiator of buzz. You get to determine the dialogue and guide the conversation for positive exposure.

What was your first job in the business?
My first job in the business was assisting on set of a photoshoot for a magazine.

What is one thing you know now that you wish you would have known when you first got started in the field?
Networking will make or break your business.

Best advice you have ever received:
Perception is reality.

Why did you join BPRS-LA?
BPRS-LA is a great place to network and learn from some industry professionals. There's a lack of diversity in the PR field and BPRS-LA is a great place to be able to highlight that disparity and help change the narrative in the field.
