April Employee of the Month
Assistant Principal Janice Rowlands
As a leader in the school, Assistant Principal Janice Rowlands leads by example. Due to her great attitude and ability to make others feel welcomed and comfortable, her peers nominated her for April Employee of the Month.
Kind and filled will grace are two of the descriptions others used when describing Rowlands. She uses words of encouragement and often words of wisdom to assist those around her.
She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Hardin Simmons University then went to work as a geologist for 10 years before returning to school to become a teacher after realizing she loved teaching young people aspects about her work.
Rowlands then taught 8th grade science in Abilene for five years and Keller for 11 years. After receiving a
Masters in Education Administration from Grand Canyon University, she joined the ranks at Carroll as assistant principal 11 years ago.
She has a difficult time deciding what makes being an educator special.
"I keep discovering new 'best parts,' " Rowlands said. "All of the best parts revolve around relationships: with students, with teachers and with parents."
During her spare time, she
loves to travel, does mission work with my church, and hangs out with my two adult daughters and husband. Her sweet dog Lucy adds to her joy too.

6th Annual Dragon Classic

at Sky Creek Ranch Golf Club
The Dragon Classic is an annual golf tournament held each spring, open to all Carroll ISD supporters; Dragon Alums, current parents, local business owners, etc.
This year you will have the choice of either a 7:30 a.m. tee time or a 1:30 p.m. tee time. We're filling up fast and we are expecting 250-300 golfers. Don't wait to reserve your spot! We also have a few sponsorship opportunities still available.

You will be added to a Google Doc based on the email you provide, this is where we will post your tee times along with any other information.

Prices - $10 to the golf course the day of Tryouts
(If you are a member you will be charged on your account)
You must have your physical turned in before you can participate. If you have a current physical turned in for the 2018 - 2019 school year it will work. There is a link on the Registration page.
Cuts will be based on swing analysis, wedges, putting, and 18 holes.
Swing analysis, wedges, and putting will all be videoed while we are at the Indoor on May 2.

Course Selection Dates
8th to 9th Grade - CMS
Thursday-Monday, April 25-29:
Details/Instructions will be provided for students so that they can choose their classes using Arena Scheduling. This process is where students will actually sign up for the classes they will take freshman year.
**All Course Selection instructions, forms and the Academic Planning Guide
will be available to view and download from the Counseling Tab on the CHS website.

How can my child meet with their counselor?
There are several ways students can see us:
1. Teacher Referral
2. Parent Referral
3. Self-Referral
We meet with students for many reasons:
1. Academic - Performance, struggles, test taking strategies, study skills etc.
2. Friendship/ Peer/Social Concerns
3. Personal Concerns
4. Behavioral Concerns
5. Stress/Anxiety
6. Responsive Services - meeting their immediate needs and concerns
If you have a concern and you would like for a counselor to meet with your child, please contact your child's grade level counselor via email or phone.

The Office
Cell Phone Use in School Zones
State of Texas traffic laws are enforceable in school zones as well. Please remember to be hands free while on the phone this includes texting.
If you have complaints or concerns, please contact Officer Roberson 817-949-5414.
Traffic
There have been several complaints about vehicles turning in front of waiting vehicles on Kirkwood Blvd. before or after school.
The far right lane must continue straight and not turn in front of vehicles waiting to the left trying to turn to get into the drop off / pick up line.
Remember from drivers ed - two lines that intersect have a point of impact. Officers will be issuing citations for this violation.
If you are needing to park in the parking lot you must either wait or turn in the parking lot from the east side traveling west.

Laptop Covers
We still have hard-shell laptop covers (green only) available for purchase for $20.
Please see Mrs. Gulliver or Mrs. Brett in the front office to purchase one.
Dress Code Reminders:
If girls wear leggings, the top worn with them must be knuckle length.
If she wears shorts, a dress or a skirt, these items must be at least knuckle length.
Thank you for helping our students follow the district dress code.

We will have CHS Principal Giamanco as our guest speaker at our upcoming PTSO general meeting. He will address Arena Scheduling and answer any questions you may have.
It is a very informative meeting.
All PTSO members are welcome to hear the presentation as well as attend our general meeting to vote in the new slate of officers for 2019-2020 school year.

 Scratch Catering & Fine Foods, owned and operated by Ted, Judy, and Colby Bilsky, is located at
2125 West Southlake Blvd., Suite 375 and
provided lasagna, caesar salad, and garlic bread for the April luncheon at a discount. Faculty also enjoyed a variety of desserts and drinks. The gracious hostess was Cory O'Neal.

Throughout the month of November CMS PTSO is having a donation campaign. This fund-raiser involves no product sales and very little of your time. Please consider making a monetary donation to CMS PTSO. You can go to the CMS website and donate under the PTSO link or drop off money in the front office. All donations will benefit CMS students and staff. PLEASE DONATE!!
Keep collecting BoxTops. Turn the ones you have from summer in a baggie with your students' name on it to the front office.
