Dear Friends of the BABC Northern California,
I’d like to first take a moment to remember and honor those that lost their lives on September 11th, 2001, 20 years ago. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those who perished and the many thousands whose lives have been impacted since.
I hope you have all had a great summer and have managed to get some much-needed rest and relaxation time as we prepare for what looks to be a busy autumn in the San Francisco Bay Area.
You may have seen that we have put out a Save the Date notice for the annual Christmas Luncheon. Friday, December 10th, 2021 at the Fairmont San Francisco. If you plan to attend, please send an email to info@babcsf.org with “BABC Christmas Lunch Interest” in the subject line and let us know how many tables or tickets you’d like to purchase. We are hopeful to be in a position to launch ticket/table sales in early October. Thanks to the many of you who have already expressed interest in attending. It's good to know there is an appetite for the Bay Area’s most celebrated Christmas party. CPRA/CDPA/CPA Unpacked - Develop a Preparedness plan now! |

The California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) is a comprehensive rework of California’s paradigm-shifting 2018 consumer protection law (the California Consumer Privacy Act or CCPA) that was enacted through a ballot initiative on November 3, 2020, and will go into full effect on January 1, 2023.
It amends the CCPA in several material ways to, among other things, eliminate the existing carve-outs for data collected from job applicants, employees, and contractors, and for data of persons representing another business in connection with a business-to-business (B-to-B) transaction or communication. Those carve-outs expire on January 1, 2023. Further legislative extensions are unlikely, as the CPRA prohibits legislative amendments that do not “enhance” privacy, though there could ultimately be somewhat different rules for these non-consumer data subjects. The CPRA retains a number of existing carve-outs for data covered by other state and federal privacy laws, such as protected healthcare information.

Fintech investment builds on momentum and is set for record year |

Fintech is continuing to enjoy popularity with investors who see it as a sector with excellent prospects for sustainable growth. The sector’s rise last year against a backdrop of great uncertainty has continued in 2021, with strong investment volumes gaining momentum.
Fintech investment activity has in fact picked up pace in 2021, with 125 deals worth £622 million transacted in H1. This volume is up a staggering 79% on H2 2020s 70 deals worth £386 million, and up from 64 deals worth £374 million over the corresponding period a year ago.

New York City is one of the two cities that BAB calls home and remains a magnet for international businesses, especially from the UK. May we never forget.

British Airways customers will be welcomed back on board with new ‘Best of British Menus’ with the September edition featuring a traditional British Roast dinner.
The airline’s roast, which will be available in First and Club World, will provide customers flying across the globe a taste of a quintessentially British dish. British Airways will debut its traditional roast with 21-day aged British beef, served with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, seasonal vegetables, horseradish cream, and gravy. On flights to the Indian subcontinent, customers will be offered British roast chicken served with roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables, bread sauce, and gravy.
The chefs will also be creating themed deserts on its monthly menus, with September’s theme being ‘All Things Botanical’ including an elderflower and white chocolate dessert with compressed apple and elderflower sorbet. READ MORE
