The TJHS Admin team would like to thank our students, families, and community for all the support last week. It was a great reminder of how our TJ family supports each other.
A big thank you to our students, staff, and families for all the effort, energy, and support they put in during the SAT, PSAT, and CMAS testing over the last two weeks. We feel confident that it will pay off.
Speaking of testing, finals are only 5 weeks away, less than 4 weeks if you are a Senior. It's a great time to check those grades and gear up to finish strong. Make sure to utilize Office Hours. Our Source of Strength group will have a surprise for those students who take advantage of Office Hours May 1st.
Seniors, don't forget Prom on the 26th.

TJ Family,
Last year we (SkillsUSA @ TJ) were selected as a National Model of Excellence Chapter. An elite group of 24 Chapters from over 19,000 Chapters nationally. It was an honor and privilege to attend the National Conference and be recognized. Jerry Esparza was shocked when he received the email from National headquarters that we were selected again this year to be one of the 24 Chapters. He wants to thank CCTM teachers, admin, and faculty for the support they give to this student organization. TJ Rocks!
Once again, TJ students came out on top at the SkillsUSA Colorado Conference and Competition. They represented TJ with pride and reflected our Spartan values. Along with the medals that were received, we also had two TJ students elected as State Officers again this year. Congratulations to

Jerry Esparza was also privileged and honored to be the recipient of SkillsUSA Colorado Advisor of the Year.

The ACE (Alternative Career Ed) class had their biggest conference competition of the year last Friday.
They competed against over 500 other students in 15 categories.

From teacher Amber Wilson: In some good news, I wanted to share last week's CoJCL Convention results for our kids in Latin Club. The kids worked hard all year preparing for the Convention and some of them also traveled to Italy and Greece for first hand research and experiences. Remember, that of the schools competing at this convention, TJ is the only DPS School and one of only two or three traditional high schools. Most of the schools competing are either charter schools focused on classical themes or private religious schools. I am beyond proud of our kids and how well they represented TJ.

Awards are given for each level (1-4), but there is also an Overall Competition where students are scored across the levels against each other. The Overall Competition is much more difficult in which to place.

9th Grade Vision & Hearing Screening

Tuesday, April 30th thru Monday, May 6th
9th grade students will be pulled from one of their non-core classes on one of these days to complete vision and hearing screenings.
Consent forms will be mailed home 2 weeks in advance- around mid-April. Please complete this form ONLY if you wish your student(s) to be opted OUT of the screening process.

PTO's mission is to enhance and support the educational experience at TJHS. With that goal in mind, PTO has budgeted $10,000 to distribute as Classroom Grants! Do you know a teacher or staff member who may have a need for grant money? It's time for any staff member to submit a request for a PTO Grant to help their students in whatever class or activity they lead. Last year, grants were used towards classroom supplies, travel to national competitions, local field trips and to enhance the art, theater and music programs.

King Soopers just made FUNDRAISING for TJ even EASIER!
Beginning April 1st, you just need to register your King Soopers loyalty card number or alternate ID (e.g. phone number) to earn money for TJ. After you register for the program, a percentage of ALL of your King Soopers purchases will go to TJ.
Important: At the point of purchase, you must swipe your loyalty card or type in your alternate ID in order for your purchases to count toward TJ's fundraising.

Two girls with EF High School Exchange are hoping to find host families in Denver for the 2019-2020 school year so they can make their dream to live in the United States come true. Mariel from Norway is half Thai, half Norwegian. She loves playing soccer, volleyball, running, snowboarding, painting, and drawing. Mental Health and Social/Emotional Tips

101 Self-Care Suggestions for When It All Feels Like Too Much - Round Seven!
As recognition of National Social Work Month, for the month of March (and part of April), our weekly "Did You Knows" will focus on self-care. We are all human; and therefore experience some days, weeks or months that may be difficult to get through, for a variety of different reasons. And that is okay! So if you or someone you love is going through one of these tough times right now, a time where it all just feels like too much, we want to offer up 101 suggestions for self-care to help you or your loved one get through this time.
Here are the FINAL tips 91-101:
91. Join a support group for people who are going through what you are going through. Check out the listings at local hospitals, libraries, churches, and universities to see what is out there.
92. Volunteer at a local shelter, hospital, or nursing home. Practice being of service to others who may also be going through a tough time.
93. Accompany a friend or family member to something. Even if it's just keeping them company while they run errands, sometimes this kind of contact can feel like good self-care.
94. Take your dog for a walk. Or borrow a friend's dog and take them for a walk.
95. Challenge your negative thinking! Play the devil's advocate and take another perspective.
96. Practice grounding and relaxation techniques.
97. Do something spontaneous. Walk or drive a different way to work. Order something new off the menu.
Try a new playlist or song genre on a music streaming app.
98. Work with your doctor, naturopath or nutritionist to develop a physical exercise plan and food plan that will be supportive to whatever you're facing right now.
99. Pray. Meditate. Write a letter to God/The Universe/Source/Your Higher Self, whatever you believe in.
100. As much as you can, please try and trust the process.
101. Finally, please remember, what you're going through right now is temporary. It may not feel like that from inside the tough time you're in, but this too shall pass and you will feel different again someday. If you can't have faith in that, let me hold the hope for you.
Please remember, by no means is this list exhaustive nor will every item on this list possibly feel good and right for you.

Class of '19 update
Parents,
Wow, we're so close! The teachers and administration at TJ have dedicated a lot to our students over the years - consider sending a special thank you to those who have been important to your student.
As we approach this important milestone, there are a lot of opportunities for parents to make the last couple of months extra special for our students.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
- After Prom, April 26th from 11pm-2am @ TJ: This is a fun and FREE event for all Seniors whether or not they attend Prom. This year's theme is "Building Memories: Under Construction" (the TJ lobby will be under construction for the event, so we wanted to have fun with that). If you'd like to help with the event, please visit the sign-up genius here (forward to family and friends who may want to volunteer)!
Don't forget these important dates:
- April 26: Prom at Denver Athletic Club 8 pm to 11 pm.
- After prom at TJ 11 pm to 2 am.
- April 29: No School
- May 7: Senior awards by invitation
- May 17: Senior check out.
- May 20: Mini graduation rehearsal at TJ. Pick up cap and gown.
- May 29: Graduation rehearsal at Magness Arena 12 noon. Graduation at 2 pm.

Reminders:
- Seniors must have a 93% attendance rate to attend Senior Prom and to walk at Graduation. If you're student is not compliant, have them connect with Mr. Skari for assistance.
- Students must have a 93% attendance rate and a 3.0 GPA to participate in the Mr. TJ Event.

Parents,
College 101 will be held from 10am-12pm Saturday April 13th at TJ. Parents and students will rotate through two 45 minute sessions. One session will be financial aid, and the other session will be admissions case studies. Counselors will then do a brief overview of Naviance and resources here at TJ at the end of the day.

As we look ahead to Senior year, we need several parent volunteers to take on the planning and execution of the Senior night camp out before the first day of school for incoming freshman (Aug.19). This is a great TJ Spartan tradition. We would especially love to have some dads help out with this event.

The class of 2022 needs 2-4 additional parents to join parent Julie Rubin in planning fundraising events. The class of 2022 has two faculty sponsors,
Jason Klimczak and Maggie Kennedy, but parents are needed to work with the staff to plan fundraising activities. Parent sponsors also plan community building activities for the parents of the class of 2022. Each class is expected to raise money needed to host their Prom, After Prom and other activities senior year. The sooner the fundraiser get started, the more choices there will be for events senior year. The time commitment can be as little or as much you can share.
Your involvement in any capacity is important and appreciated. We are successful because of your behind-the-scenes contributions, large and small. It all adds up to a stronger community. An engaged parent body shows our students that we care about them!
