Palm Beach Civic Association Presents Awards at Annual Meeting

More than 400 people attended the Palm Beach Civic Association's 2019 Annual Meeting and End of Season 75th Season Celebration Monday at the Henry Morrison Flagler Museum.  The event marked the end of the Civic Association's 75th anniversary season. A kickoff reception in November at the Royal Poinciana Plaza marked the beginning of the 75th anniversary celebration and continued with a variety of programs offered throughout this milestone season.

In her ninth State of Palm Beach address, Mayor Gail Coniglio spoke about the upcoming positive changes in Palm Beach's future - as well as some challenges that the town will have to tackle.  She spoke about protecting the environment, nourishing the beaches, and improving salary and benefits for public safety employees. She also gave status updates on current construction projects.

Palm Beach Takes Step Toward Zoning Change for Businesses

Zoning officials took a modest step Tuesday toward simplifying town oversight whenever businesses want to make interior changes. Planning and Zoning Commission members voted 4-3 in favor of the rule change, which is up to the Town Council to implement. Zoning board members in the minority said they didn't want to rush into the change without knowing more specifics or having more time to consider any unforeseen circumstances.

Car carriers are allowed to load and off-load vehicles in 3 areas of Town. Commercial Loading and Unloading /Deliveries are only allowed during the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. (Ord. 42-197) - violations of this ordinance are a class II violations.

Flag Display on Royal Poinciana Way in Palm Beach Doesn't Fly
The  Town Council appears willing to allow  a large patriotic U.S. flag display Veterans Day weekend on Royal Poinciana WayBut the council told the Rotary Club of Palm Beach Tuesday that, if approved, the Flags for Heroes charity event will have to be staged in Bradley Park.

The fact that a billionaire developer proposed the city's tallest buildings beside the waterfront park didn't seem to faze the Northwood residents and business owners who came to hear Jeff Greene's vision for his assembled parcels. Many applauded and commented on how the project could become a focal point for the community, boost its economy and draw life to a park that has defaulted to the homeless.

Organizers of the Palm Beach International Boat Show have learned the hard way that rough weather can sink attendance at the annual springtime event quicker than a hole in a hull. But that certainly wasn't the case at the 34th edition of the show. The show, in fact, saw attendance jump more than 6.7 percent over last year, organizers said this week, although they didn't release specific gate figures.
