Kasey Rogers promoted to principal of Schluter Elementary School
Kasey Rogers, current assistant principal of Schluter Elementary School, will soon lead the campus following her promotion approval by school board trustees.
Ms. Rogers will lead Schluter beginning in the 2019-20 school year, replacing Amy Howell, who will open Lance Thompson Elementary School as its inaugural principal. She has served as the school’s assistant principal since 2016, focusing on implementing instructional best practices through teacher professional development, data evaluation, educator coaching and more.
Prior to her time in school administration, Ms. Rogers served as a district elementary math coach and a campus elementary teacher for seven years.
In addition to her school-based professional experience, Ms. Rogers has spent much of her time volunteering for education-related purposes, including serving as a student mentor, day care curriculum development coach and math tutor.
Ms. Rogers received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of North Texas, majoring in interdisciplinary studies as an undergraduate student and educational administration as a graduate student.
She will begin her new role at Schluter in July.
Todd Rogers named principal of Steele Accelerated High School
Todd Rogers will begin serving as the new principal of Steele Accelerated High School following the conclusion of the 2018-19 school year, bringing a seasoned administrator to the unique learning environment.
School board trustees approved Mr. Rogers hiring for the 2019-20 school year, with Mr. Rogers formally beginning in his new position in July. Mr. Rogers will then lead a campus for the third time at Northwest ISD, following successful stops at both the elementary and middle school levels.
Mr. Rogers has served as an associate principal for Northwest ISD high schools since 2015, first at Byron Nelson and currently at Northwest. Previously, he served as principal at Chisholm Trail Middle School for four years and Peterson Elementary School for three years. He has also served as a principal in Decatur ISD and an assistant principal in Grapevine-Colleyville ISD.
Throughout his career, Mr. Rogers has received a wealth of accolades for his professional expertise. He has received the Texas PTA’s Secondary Principal of the Year award as well as the Texas School Counselor Association’s Counselor Advocate of the Year award. Additionally, Mr. Rogers has served on several Northwest ISD committees, helping steer many educational and administrative endeavors.
Mr. Rogers received his master’s degree in education leadership and administration from the University of North Texas and bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Salisbury State University. In addition, he completed his superintendent certification program through Region 11.
Jonathan Pastusek named executive director of financial services
Trustees approved the district recommendation to name Jonathan Pastusek as its new executive director of financial services, overseeing financial planning and management across Northwest ISD.
Mr. Pastusek comes to Northwest ISD from Bowie ISD, where he has served as chief financial officer since 2014. In that role, he manages operations of all financial and business affairs for his school district. He also has the unique qualification for his position of having prior experience as an educator – he served as the head basketball coach for three years at Notre Dame High School in Wichita Falls, his alma mater.
Prior to his time in public education, Mr. Pastusek spent several years in the commercial finance sector. He served as the chief financial officer at Chandler MFG and SuperTherm Fluid Heating Services, a business manager at Energy Service Company, and a leasing officer at American National Bank.
Mr. Pastusek received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Midwestern State University, majoring in finance as an undergraduate student and business administration as a graduate student.
Staff medical premiums discussed
Human resources staff presented information to trustees about the proposed 2019-20 medical premiums, with a vote on the health plans scheduled for the April 22 board meeting.
Currently, all 2018-19 medical plan expenditures (costs for health-related matters covered by these plans) are outpacing their revenues (funding for the plans). Because of the need to increase the district’s medical plan fund balance, the district has recommended increasing premiums on all plans except for the employee-only coverage level of the high deductible plan. This plan is used by the majority of district staff members.
Northwest ISD currently contributes $325 per employee health plan, one of the highest contribution amounts for school districts in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
In other action, the board
- Accepted a donation from Calvin Smith for his letterman’s jacket from Northwest High School; Mr. Smith was the basketball captain and a member of one of the first graduating classes of the school and district.
- Recognized the district purchasing department for receiving the TASBO Elite Award of Merit, received for meeting professional standards in the acquisitions of goods and services.
- Recognized educator Kaycee Bennett for receiving the Marty Murrell Excellence in Education Award for her work teaching and assisting deafblind students and their teachers.
