Easter is an exciting time of the year! It's officially spring. Bright, friendly colors are everywhere. Flowers are blooming. The crops in the vegetable garden are smiling and winking at you. The bees are buzzing. The weather is mostly pleasant (even though Mississippi can have its fair share of unpredictable, constantly changing weather). When Easter comes, there are so many ways to be creative--on any budget--with arts and crafts and games with the kids. This is a great time to start new family traditions or to spice up the old ones.
Here are three activities that will keep your little ones entertained this Easter:
1.Egg Coloring
Egg coloring kits can be picked up from any major retailer and typically include the colors and tools and sometimes even stickers and other egg decorations. (
Make this activity even more interesting by trying to make your own colors. Here's how: Mix 1/2 cup boiling water, 1 teaspoon vinegar and 10 to 20 drops food color in a cup to achieve desired colors. Repeat for each color. Dip hard-cooked eggs in dye for about 5 minutes. Use a slotted spoon, wire egg holder or tongs to add and remove eggs from dye. Source: McCormick.com)
2.Egg & Spoon Race
This is an activity many adults remember engaging in as a child at May Day events and school and city festivals. It is cheap, easy, and very entertaining. Adults can participate as well. It would even make a great birthday party idea or family reunion activity. Here's how you can implement fun with this race this Easter:
Competitors must race either individually or in teams in the format of a relay race. The object of the race is to outrun (or out-walk) the other person or team without dropping the egg from the spoon. (Speed and balancing the spoon well are key here.) If the egg falls from the spoon, competitors may be required to stop, retrieve, and reposition the egg. Depending on the rules set, that contender may even have to start completely over from the starting line. In races with even more extreme rules, that contender would be disqualified, possibly along with his or her team. (You can tweak these rules based on the ages and capabilities of the participants for fairness.)
There is no doubt about it that this will be a hit for everyone!
3.Planting Flowers
Even though it's simple, planting flowers is a great way to spend quality time with the kids while teaching them a fundamental skill they can carry with them in adulthood. Besides, planting flowers could be a great start for learning how to plant fruits and veggies!
