WPS luncheon features 'Year of
Yes' discussion

On June 13, Paula Downs, Talent and Professional Development Manager at the PPMC, led Women in Public Service (WPS) luncheon attendees through a discussion about best-selling author and TV writer Shonda Rhimes' book "Year of Yes." The book, which has been the theme and inspiration for WPS members this year, challenges its readers to look at things they are saying "No" to, and to discover what can happen when the answer is "Yes" instead. At the luncheon, Downs challenged the women in attendance to identify at least on thing to say "Yes" to this year. For more information about WPS: www.wichita.edu/wps.
PPMC facilitates Goddard
Public Library board retreat

Last Saturday, members of the Goddard Public Library board gathered at Dove Estates for a retreat. The PPMC facilitated conversations about the library's strategic plan and provided leadership training for the board. Other topics covered at the retreat were governance, fiduciary responsibilities, KOMA/KORA and fundraising. To learn more about the library, visit www.goddardlibrary.com.
Train the Trainer session focuses on adult learning

Paula Downs, Talent and Professional Development Manager at the PPMC, spent a morning session teaching training techniques to those who wanted to learn more about current training trends. Highlights of the June 6 session included fidget toys to help the audience stay engaged, addressing three types of learning styles and, most importantly, how many times a trainer should repeat information before the audience will remember it. The morning was filled with various audience engagement techniques focused on adult learning.
