B'nai Mitzvah
Date Requests: Packages for 2021-2022 B’nai Mitzvah will be mailed next week to all 4
th grade families and families with older 3
rd graders with birthdays before December 15, 2009. You will find lots of information in the package to help you pick your dates. We are asking families to opt into sharing a B’nai Mitzvah date with another family.
Please note that those who volunteer for a double service will have priority in their choice of dates.
If you prefer to get your own date, we’ll do our best to assign you one within 3 months of your student’s birthday. In the case that we don’t have enough volunteers for a shared service, we may need to assign a shared date. Please return your request form to the temple office by
Monday, May 20 if you would like your request to be considered in the initial round of date assignment. If you wish to talk to a rabbi about any concerns or special situations, please contact Maria Turenne at

Yom HaShoah - On
Wednesday, May 1, 2019,
Congregation Beth Jacob will host a community-wide commemoration featuring Special Guest Speaker Lily Robinson, who will share the story of how she and her family survived the Holocaust in Bulgaria. Reading of Martyrs' Names will begin at
6:30 p.m.,
with a Service of Remembrance at 7:00 p.m.
followed by a dessert reception. Services will be held at Congregation Beth Jacob, 1550 Alameda de las Pulgas, Redwood City.

Host Families Needed for Teens - Local host families are needed for teens coming in July from Cyprus (Christian Greek Cypriots and Turkish Muslim Cypriots) and from Israel/Palestine (Christian, Jewish and Muslim teens in partnership with Jerusalem Peacebuilders). The teens are placed in pairs in host families - one teen from each side of the conflict. The teens are trained in peacebuilding, leadership, and communication skills.
If you are interested in hosting either this year or in the future, or want more information, please contact the local host coordinator, Becky Stirn. Potential hosts for July 2019 are asked to contact Becky (
