Dear Friends of The Blue Purl,
What does Memorial Day mean to you?
Of course, it is a time to remember those who gave their lives serving our country. It is a day of national observance, a reminder that our way of life does, indeed, come at a cost.
All of this seems especially relevant now, when our way of life has been shaken by this virus and an army of health care workers and first responders across the nation have done all they can to help us through.
Let's remember and honor them all, today, together.
Memorial Day is also the unofficial start to summer, when we typically think of going to the beach, firing up the barbecue, and gathering with friends.
Well and for us - yes, you guess it, knit.
While we agree that our creations are sometimes (not always) best suited for the cooler temps, what better time to get a project going than right now? Have those sweaters, socks, mittens, ready by autumn.
The Blue Purl is here to help you keep your projects and creative self going. We are open three days a week and continue to populate our
online shop
. We are also offering zoom classes with Keri, Carolyn, and Liz is jumping in, and have received lots of positive feedback.
So this Memorial Day, we would like to encourage us all to be grateful for what we have and to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice to give us our liberty -- and our health.
And while that might feel a bit somber, let’s close out on a slightly lighter note. We all have time these days for home projects and so a friend was rooting around her basement and found a magazine from 1941, during the difficult days of World War II, called "Knit for Defense." The idea was that those who worked with their hands could contribute to the national defense, too.
“Whether he is in the Army, the Navy or the Air Force, he will appreciate the warmth and comfort of sweaters and woolen accessories knitted especially for him.’’
There is nothing quite like a handmade object, because it was made with care and skill, it says you care.
Let’s make the most of these days. Let’s Connect and Create.
