What is a Limited Submission? A limited submission solicitation (RFA, RFP, etc.) places a cap on the number of submissions that Auburn may submit to a sponsor. Auburn handles limited submissions by sending out a notification via this newsletter and creating competitions in the Auburn University Competition Space (also known as InfoReady ).To apply to any limited submission posted below, click on the above link and search for your competition reflected on the page. Please refer to the Limited Submission Procedures page for a list of requirements.

NIH Occupational Safety and Health Education and Research Centers (42) The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), invites grant applications for funding Education and Research Centers (ERCs) that are focused on occupational safety and health training, research training, education and outreach. NIOSH is mandated to provide an adequate supply of qualified personnel to carry out the purposes of the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and the ERCs are one of the principal means for meeting this mandate. ERCs are academic institutions that provide high-quality interdisciplinary graduate training, research training, continuing education, and outreach in the core occupational safety and health disciplines of industrial hygiene (IH), occupational health nursing (OHN), occupational medicine residency (OMR), and occupational safety (OS), as well as closely related allied disciplines. Research and research training are integral components of ERCs, with ERC faculty and NIOSH trainees conducting research on issues related to the NIOSH National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA). The ERCs also serve as regional resources for industry, labor, government, and the public.    Institutional Limit: 1 Proposal Internal Deadline: June 28, 2019, 4:45pm

Mallinckrodt Grants (Biomedical Research) The mission of the Foundation is to support early stage investigators engaged in basic biomedical research that has the potential to significantly advance the understanding, diagnosis or treatment of disease. Any domestic biomedical institution, whether solely research or educational, is invited to submit one candidate for the Mallinckrodt Board's consideration.  Applicants should be in the first to fourth year of their tenure track faculty position and not have current R01 funding. Grants are usually $60,000 and funding commences on October 1. No indirect costs are allowed. Salary is acceptable.  Institutional Limit: 1 Proposal Internal Deadline: June 28, 2019, 4:45pm

Communicating Science Workshop The Office of Proposal Services and Faculty Support is hosting an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)-sponsored Workshop for faculty in all disciplines.The one-half day workshop, which enhances public education and outreach skills, helps to provide faculty members with the tools to effectively communicate complex information to journalists, policymakers, and the public, was launched at the 2008 AAAS Annual Meeting in Boston and has since provided more than 220 workshops for over 7,000 attendees at universities, science society meetings, and government agency labs in the US and abroad. We are excited to bring the Workshop to Auburn University. There are 50 seats available. Respondents after the first 50 are encouraged to join a waitlist. Registration closes July 19, 2019. What : The 2019 NanoBio Summit Where : Embassy Suites by Hilton, Atlanta at Centennial Olympic Park. When :  Sept 5 & 6 th , 2019   (arrival on 4 th , planning meeting on 4 th ) Note, this is an annual event, AU hosted in 2016. The registration website and speaker lists are being finalized and should be available in the next couple of weeks. NEH Summer Stipend Application Information Auburn University can nominate two applicants for NEH Summer 2020 Stipends Summer Stipends carry an award of $6000 for scholarly projects including books, articles, digital materials, translations, editions and other scholarly resources. Applicants should read the 2019 NEH guidelines carefully and submit an electronic copy of a polished draft of the NEH application form to the Auburn NEH Committee by the deadline: 5:00 p.m., 1 July 2019. The application is composed of: The cover sheet 3-page narrative 1 page bibliography (which should demonstrate preparation for the project) 2-page resume (in editing the full resume, proof of competence for the project should be a priority) Appendices if relevant Submit applications to pkrb@auburn.edu. The committee will make its selections after that and will work with the selected nominees to refine their proposals by 16 August. The NEH deadline is 25 September 2019. NEH accepts applications only from those nominated by their university or organization.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

Paul P. Fidler Research Grant

The Paul P. Fidler Research Grant competition is open to those planning to conduct research on college student transitions. Proposals will be evaluated on the extent to which they:  - focus on issue(s) related to college student transitions. Though all issues related to college student transitions will be considered, special consideration will be given to proposals addressing transitions outside of the first year of college.  - clearly articulate a strong research design. Qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method studies will be considered. Methodology must be appropriate for the research question(s).  - include research that can be completed by October 2020. Results must be ready for presentation at the 2020 National Conference on Students in Transition.  - explore unique issues, subjects, analysis, participants and/or sample. Research must be original work of the investigators and may not have been reported elsewhere.  - have potential for national impact on student success initiatives. Results of the research should be relevant to a broad audience.  Note: The Fidler grant seeks to fund strong research studies with a broad national or international impact. Proposals centered on the implementation, assessment, or evaluation of a program or initiative will not be considered.  Intent to Apply Due – July 1, 2019

Women's Fund for Greater Birmingham Grants

The Women’s Fund will make grant awards of up to $50,000 for one year that impact Greater Birmingham’s five-county metropolitan area: Blount, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, and Walker. The Women's Fund is committed to creating a legacy of economic opportunity from one generation to the next for women and their children.  For our 2020 grant cycle (funding to be awarded December 2019), The Women’s Fund will consider proposals for programs and public policy advocacy that promote women’s economic opportunity. We will invest in the following: Programs that use a two-generation approach to create opportunities for entire families by integrating services for women and their children. Public policy initiatives that focus on state or local systems-level change, including regulatory change, to address at least one core-component of a two-generation approach.   Proposal Due – July 3, 2019
