Why We Give – the Bigger Reason
People have many reasons why they give their resources to a cause. Sometimes we give because it is an obligation, because we think we should. Sometimes we give because we believe in the cause, particularly if that cause has touched us or a family member. Sometimes we give because we are part of a great organization of which we have taken part (e.g. the alumni) and together with others we can continue to make a big impact. When we give to the church, all the above motivations are involved. The bible instructs us to give. We give to efforts that touch lives (including our own). And when we give along with others, we are part of transforming the world in the name of Christ.
But there is an even more important reason. We give as an expression of our partnership with God in all that we have and are. The bible’s teaching of tithing (giving of 10% to the work of God) is not just
giving back, it is being part of what God is doing.
My stuff becomes
our stuff in which the power and presence of God fills and uses all of it. For Tina and me, there is an ongoing financial miracle that has been happening for us for years now. When we give God our 10%, we live more efficiently and with less stress than we did when we did not. At first, we hadn’t managed our spending well, so we had to gradually move to that level of giving. Now, we give a tithe to the church budget and give beyond that to other needs that come along, and it is fun to do so.
Beginning on Sunday, November 17, every member and participant at First United Methodist Church will be given the opportunity to make a financial commitment to our ministry for the coming year. These commitments are hugely important in guiding our finance committee to lead the church in setting a reasonable and faithful budget for 2020. They also help our congregational leaders and staff to plan for what ministry can be done. Most importantly, these commitments express our partnership with God financially and personally. So we don’t just set a number, we ask in prayer,
“God, how do you want me (us) to give to your work in this coming year?” Tina and I look forward to making this commitment alongside you, our beloved family in Christ.
See you for a very special Veteran’s Sunday celebration!
Sincerely in Christ,

Sharing Love this Christmas

Holiday Missional Giving Menu
When the holiday spirit hits, most of us like to share our blessings with others in our community. Many of our church organizations and groups organize gifting opportunities for a variety of people. See the info below about the
First Church Crafters Holiday Extravaganza and the
Christmas Angel Tree. Other opportunities coming up soon include:
- First Church Backpack Project: On November 17, they will be setup to accept donations for HEB cards to support weekend meals for Round Rock area children.
- Caring Angels Stockings: Pick up a stocking with a shopping list on November 24 or December 1. Then shop for those items for local senior citizens, fill your stocking and return it to the church by December 8.
- Pastor's Community Assistance Fund: Contributions may be made online at any time and funds are used to help people in crisis.

Coming up this weekend at First Church!

We have some faithful Front Office Volunteers that help the church staff with greeting guests, answering phone calls and other tasks. Occasionally, our volunteers might need a day off for appointments or for illness. We would love to be able to offer our volunteers a substitute list.
Please contact Patricia Collins at patricia@fumc-rr.org or by calling the front office at 512.255.3336 if you would be willing to be trained and join a great team.

Student Led Ignite was Awesome!
My oh my what a great night! Student Led Ignite was awesome in every way. Our students did a great job planning and leading a night centered around thankfulness and its importance in our spiritual lives. Students and adults alike were challenged to really take a deep look at what they are truly thankful for and how they can carry that attitude beyond the Thanksgiving season. I think JT Ahmann said it best when he said,
"Don't use Thanksgiving as one day of the year, use it as an intro into the thankfulness you will have for the rest of the year."

Childrens Fall Mission: Texas Humane Heroes
Children in Walk of Faith made toys for dogs and cats one day as part of one Sunday School lesson. All during September and October, children brought supplies for dogs and cats living at Texas Human Heroes, a place that lodges animals without homes until they can be adopted. 3rd-5th graders who attended the October J-Team event made dog biscuits in our church kitchen! They had so much fun and the dogs loved the treats! Animals in the shelter had a great time with the hand-made toys as well. The children were so excited about this mission!

Our mission for November and December is
Sleep in Heavenly Peace
.
We are collecting new twin-size sheets, blankets, comforters and pillows. Watch for information on our future church-wide mission for Sleep in Heavenly Peace, when volunteers will be constructing twin bunk beds for area children who currently do not have their own bed. New bedding we collect will be given to the children with their new bed! Any money donated will also go to
Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

Order forms are also available in the Sanctuary Foyer, FLC and the church office. Just complete the order form and place it in the offering plate, drop it in the basket in the foyer or bring it to the church office during regular office hours.
