Far Right vs. Right; Netanyahu vs. Gantz -Mark Hage, VTJP

Jonathan Cook , an award-winning journalist and political writer who makes his home in Israel, recently wrote an illuminating and chilling piece about Israel's recent election campaign. Here are some of his observations and insights.
This election, he says, "must be the first in which a sitting Israeli prime minister has sought to win over voters by boasting about how much he insulted a president of the United States." The president in question is not the one currently residing in the White House, who relocated the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem and recognized Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Golan Height of Syria to boost Netanyahu's electoral fortunes.  The maligned former president is Barack Obama.

Ballet Hispanico Saturday, April 20 at 8:00pm. Hot Brown Honey Friday, April 26 at 8:00pm.  Serving up an audacious platter of dance, comedy, striptease, and song, the sweetly acidic Hot Brown Honey harks back to the delicious clownery of Josephine Baker while packing a punch of hip-hop politics. From the simmering shores of "Polynesia," where tropical stripteases skewer dusky maiden fantasies, to the life of a single mother who just happens to be a DJ, Hot Brown Honey undresses sticky topics in an explosion of color, culture, and controversy. Fighting the power has never tasted so sweet. Recommended for ages 18 and older.

Stand for Racial Justice, Stand with Kiah Morris

As Vermonters, it is crucial that we each understand and acknowledge the generational harm that systemic racism causes on the lived experiences of people of color in this state. When a moral society shuns overt acts of racism and bigotry, communities must actively work towards becoming anti-racist in all forms from daily microaggressions and microinvalidations in the workplace or in our schools to championing legal remedies that aim to eradicate inequity.
We see racism in Vermont from the overt racist and sexist harassment that led the resignation of Representative Kiah Morris from her seat to the ongoing ways that people of color in Vermont are marginalized and harmed from both overt and subtle, as well as personal and systemic forms of racism.
Therefore, we are asking you to seriously consider taking a pledge to stand for racial justice and stand with Kiah Morris and the other people of color harmed by racism in our state.
By signing this pledge, you are pledging to do more than just give us your word. You are pledging to participate in one (or more) of the following book discussions that the PJC is hosting to kick-start or continue your journey into this work:

From the Blog: My Experience as a PJC Intern

-Taylor Morgan, Volunteer Coordination Intern

I first got involved with the Peace & Justice Center in November 2018, when I applied to their internship on Handshake [Champlain College job board]. I had little to no knowledge of the center prior to applying, only that it was down by the waterfront. I didn't realize the immense impact the Center has, and the levels of passion and dedication the staff, interns, and volunteers possess. I was interviewed and then offered the position of the Volunteer Coordination Intern. I accepted, thus beginning my relationship with the PJC.

Prospective Facilitator Gathering

From Craftsbury to Manchester, St Albans to Barre, we did 89 educational programs in nine Vermont counties last year.

You could be a part of that.  Come to our next Prospective Facilitator Gathering on April 29 from 5:30-6:45 at the PJC to learn more.

Below Tanaisha Coleman shares what inspired her to become a PJC facilitator:

"Being a woman of color navigating complex spaces has helped me cultivate awareness of how privilege and oppression can flex, so I want to help others with their social justice journey. Since high school, advocating for others and being a part of organizations that embrace differences has been a passion for me. Additionally, the climate of our country and world has motivated me to make proactive strives to shift norms and develop equitable practices. Thus, being a facilitator for the Peace & Justice Center is another intentional move to educate others and build adaptable inclusive communities." - Tanaisha Coleman

Action Highlight: 2019 Rally for the Planet

Join the Vermont Youth Lobby on Wednesday, May 1st from 9am-1:30pm as they rally for CLIMATE, JOBS, AND JUSTICE!

This youth-led event is open to all who wish to fight for a livable planet, a just transition to clean energy, and a thriving Vermont economy. The main goal this year is to let lawmakers know that Vermont needs to take a much stronger leadership role in the global fight against climate change!

The pace of change taking place in Montpelier to address climate change is not fast enough to meet the challenges we are confronted with, as highlighted in the most recent IPCC report that gives humanity 10-12 years to make dramatic cuts in greenhouse gas emissions if we are to avoid some of the most serious and irreversible impacts of climate change.

Learn more about this legislation, chat with your local lawmakers, and visit some of the many booths that will be showcasing youth activism from around the state. Visit their website for more information and to register for the Rally as an individual, small group, or school today!
