TSIC Celebrates the Class of 2019

The Hillsborough Education Foundation is so proud of the 104 TSIC seniors who recently graduated. On June 4th, the TSIC team held their final Senior Workshop to celebrate the Class of 2019 at the University of Tampa. The workshop covered important information regarding their TSIC scholarship, tips for success in college, and financial aid information.

Collectively, the 104 seniors in the Class of 2019 were awarded more than $403,000 in additional scholarships! We look forward to seeing what these wonderful young people will accomplish in the future.

TSIC Students & Mentors Volunteer at Metropolitian Ministries

On June 10th, 23 students and mentors spent the morning volunteering at Metropolitan Ministries. Whether it was helping in the kitchen, thrift store, or around the facility, it was great to give back and spend time together. We'd like to say thank you to all who participated and we look forward to spending more time volunteering this summer!

Host a Supply Drive for the Teaching Tools Resource Center this Summer and Support Students in Need

While most kids eagerly begin the school year with a new backpack filled with school supplies, thousands of students who attend Hillsborough County Public Schools will enter the classroom without these critical items.  By hosting a supply drive you will be making a difference in the lives of students in need by giving them the opportunity to begin the school year with their own backpack filled with supplies. Plus, your donations will help us keep the shelves stocked in our Teaching Tools Store, which provides free school supplies to students all school year.

Our TSIC students and families also get to shop in the store for school supplies before school starts and we want to make sure there are plenty of items for them!

Items in High Demand:
  • Multi subject notebooks
  • Index cards
  • Zipper binders
  • Dividers
  • Backpacks (HS level)

Is College Worth It? YES!

A new study shows that, from a financial standpoint alone, earning a bachelor's degree is on average a sound investment. The new research notes the constant questioning of the economic value of earning a bachelor's degree,  particularly with many students taking on debt to pay for college. The study examines average wages and adjusts for inflation and other labor market changes over time. In recent years, the average college graduate with only a bachelor's degree earned $78,000 compared to $45,000 for those with only a high school diploma. Though the cost of college is going up, the report notes that colleges  remains a good investment.
