YOUR NAME MATTERS
Name Tag
Why wear a name tag?
  • Name tags encourage conversation;
  • Name tags promote an outward focus;
  • Name tags make guests feel more comfortable; &
  • Some folks aren't great at remembering names!
HONOR SOMEONE WITH SANCTUARY FLOWERS
You can provide flowers for our  Sunday  services, and  also celebrate someone you love.  Flowers can be donated in the name of someone special for a birthday or anniversary, in memory of someone who's passed on, or to the  Glory to God.  On the bulletin board by the coffee pot is a sign-up sheet where you can choose an open date.  The cost is $35.   A check for the cost can be dropped into the collection plate any Sunday with "Flowers" in the memo line.  Thank you!
ST. CATHERINE'S QUILTERS GROUP
A group from St. Catherine's meets to talk and make lap quilts, which we then donate to Manor Care, or to someone from St. Catherine's who might need a bit of TLC.  We always welcome anyone who might be interested in learning to make a quilt, or just to be a part of this ministry. No sewing experience is needed, just a pair or willing hands!   Want to help? Contact Amy Heintz at heintzad@gmail.com, or  Sally Dickinson at 853-7850, or  sbdickinson@sbcglobal.net .

April 2019
The Rev. Peter Skewes-Cox
Rev. Peter's Message

Our walk with Jesus during Lent is leading us towards Jerusalem. On Palm Sunday, April 14, we celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey. He will be greeted with our shouts of "Hosanna!" as our new king. We will also remember his passion and death as we hear Luke's Gospel story of his arrest, trial and crucifixion. We will depart in silence after this service.

On Maundy Thursday, April 18, we begin the Sacred Triduum, the Three Sacred Days, with a service commemorating the institution of the Eucharist, which includes foot washing and the stripping of the Altar as the church falls into darkness. Before the service, we will gather at 6 pm for a Potluck Agape Supper.

On Friday, April 19, we observe Good Friday at noon with prayers and meditations, including the Stations of the Cross.

On Saturday, April 20, we will celebrate the First Eucharist of Easter at 7 pm with the Easter Vigil. This service begins in darkness with the lighting of the Paschal Candle from new fire, followed by reading of Scripture from the Hebrew Bible covering the major events of our salvation history. We then renew our Baptismal Vows and celebrate the first Eucharist of Easter, which we repeat every Sunday.

As a fitting conclusion to the observance of our Lenten disciplines together, I commend these three services to you as a deeply moving spiritual experience.

I am grateful to the people of St. Catherine's for the opportunity to walk with you as your Associate Priest during the seasons of Lent and Easter, as we work together to prepare to call and welcome a new priest to lead us.

Vestry Corner

By Charlie Dickinson, Senior Warden

The St. Catherine's Vestry continues to work towards keeping our services and facilities running smoothly. We are reviewing options for our worship space for both our short and long-term needs .

Under the direction of our Junior Warden, Liz Skogerson, the building was inspected for fire safety and we are addressing the issues that were brought up during the inspection. Additionally, we are looking at ways to improve lighting and acoustics in the parish hall.

Vestry members have volunteered to lead the Tuesday night Lenten supper gatherings, which will continue through April 9. These have been fun and thoughtful evenings prov iding physical and mental nourishment as we move through Lent.

We continue to count on the support of the congregation to help us keep St. Catherine's a welcoming place to gather, worship and lead in Christ's mission to help others.

Please contact any members of the Vestry with questions or suggestions relative to the operation of our Parish.
New Housekeeping team: Contact Liz

St. Catherine's Church is being used more than just on Sundays!  This is good news.

We are now looking for 3-4 people to offer one hour of your time, on a weekly basis, to tidy up.  This can be done anytime Thursday-Saturday.

If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Liz Skogerson at 775-400-6593 or email at  elizabethskogerson@yahoo.com.

Donate an Easter lily

If you would like to donate an Easter lily in thanksgiving or in memory of a friend or family member, please send in a check  for $10  (or put it in the collection plate)  and write "Easter lily" in the memo field. Please include your name and "In thanksgiving for ______" or "In memory of _________."
Easter Eggs
Can you fill some eggs?

We're having an Easter egg hunt at the same time as the potluck brunch: between the services (10 a.m.) on Easter Sunday, April 21. Prior to Easter, we need people to fill our plastic Easter eggs with individually-wrapped candy or toys.

A large plastic bin is in the front hall of the church, full of reusable plastic eggs that are bagged into a dozen eggs each. If you are willing and able, please take a bag of 12 plastic eggs, fill them with treats and bring them back to church on Sunday, April 14. Thank you!
Nevada Interfaith Prayer Breakfast

St. Catherine's is looking to put together a table of 8 to attend the annual Nevada Interfaith Prayer Breakfast on Wednesday morning, April 10. It's from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the Atlantis Ballroom. The cost is $25 per person.

There is a sign-up at church for those interested in attending. For more details, visit: http://nevadainterfaith.org/nevada-prayer-breakfast-2019/
Newborn
Baby Bundles

By Ann Crase

"Baby Bundles" is composed of and supported by members of St. Catherine's and Trinity Episcopal Churches. With items donated by both congregations, volunteers assemble "Bundles" of layette items for St. Mary's and Renown hospitals. They are then distributed by hospital staff to disadvantaged new parents who have little or nothing for their newborn.

Any help with the following items would be greatly appreciated:

CURRENT NEEDS
  • Boys' colorful short-sleeve onesies
  • Boys' bibs
  • Boys' afghans or quilts
  • Unisex pants
  • Unisex hats
  • Unisex sleepers
If you'd like us to shop for you, monetary donations are always welcome, too. God Bless!

Questions? Contact Susan Lombardi at 329-2044 or Ann Crase at 356-1155.
Automatic bill pay for your pledge

Some St. Catherine's members have found it very convenient to use their bank's "bill pay" service to handle their pledge to the church.  You can instruct your bank to have a check of a certain amount generated on a certain date, which will then show up automatically each month at the church's P. O. box.  If you're interested in setting this up to save yourself the step of writing checks for your pledge, please talk to your bank or financial institution to find out the details.
