Dear CCGS Families,
We had another great week at school! Students at home and at school started taking their MAP assessments and it has been so great to see their growth in both reading and in math. Some students will be finishing up their MAP testing this coming week as well. I wanted to thank those of you that were able to make it to our Drive Through Santa event this past weekend. If you haven't seen the link for your Santa pictures, click here. I had a great time at recess with Ms. Litchfield's classroom this week. They learned how to play red light, green light. We also had a wonderful virtual author visit with Michael Wayne today. We saw so many students on for each of his talks. Students heard an unpublished story from him and they also learned how to draw a snowman. I also got to make some Good News Phone Calls for students who have been working super hard in school this week. These calls are the highlight of my day! Ms. Graham's students have a goal of reaching 50 stars, and when they do this, they get to eat lunch with me! She had several students who earned that this week so I learned all about their families, what they love about school, and what they want for Christmas.

Please do not send any holiday goodie bags for other students to class this week. To keep all our students safe, we are unable to hand these out.

In school we have a new Dreambox Leaderboard which will be updated each month. The top 5 students that complete the most lessons each month will get their names on the board. This includes our remote and our in person students. Congratulations to the following students who were our top November students!

K: Gabriel V., Dominic M., Ada Mae H., Navie K., Taylor P
1st: Delaney G., Anniston C., Mason M., Nadine R., Liam F. Lucile C., Sarah C. (There were some ties in 1st grade)
2nd: Emma O., Emma G., Alexis W., Burton A., Kamron B.

Please add any December pictures you have taken to this album. Take a look at our November video so you can see all the fun that took place last month. Thank you so much for sharing your at home pictures with us!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend with your family!

Mrs. Hamm

We are so grateful to those that are able to help out our CCGS Families this holiday season. If you purchased an item from the Giving Tree list please deliver it with the family number and letter by Monday to CCGS.
This week we will have a school spirit week! Whether you are at home or at school, we would love for you to participate. Please post pictures in our December album if you are remote so we can see your festive attire.

We are also super excited about our next Virtual Reading Night, which will be this Thursday, December 17th at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom. Please join us for fun, activities, and we will have more prizes! Afterwards, please stay for our PTO meeting. During the PTO meeting @7PM via zoom (using the same link) we will be reviewing the school handbook. Parents and staff will have the opportunity to give feedback on the current handbook for the upcoming school year. The current handbook can be found here. We will also be hearing from the PTO on how they have helped our students and teachers so far this year, and will learn about upcoming events.

  • If you are picking your K-3 student up in the back, please have your child's name and teacher written on a piece of paper and hold it up when you are waiting for your child. This is especially important when we are dismissing from inside on bad weather days. It will help speed things up!
  • We have been seeing an influx of students sitting in the front seat or in the back seat with no booster or car seat. If your family is in need of a proper fitting car seat or booster seat, please email [email protected] or myself.
  • Please do not allow your child to bring toys from home to school. We have had an influx of stuffed animals coming into the building. Although an Elf on the Shelf is a magical creature, these also count as toys. Please keep these items at home.
  • Please send two masks each day with your child. The disposable masks should not be worn each day to school without changing them. With the colder weather, masks can become uncomfortable and wet after being outside due to condensation. Over the weekend, please check the fit of your child's mask. We are seeing more masks falling below the nose and more reminders are being give. I think some are getting stretched out. It is a great time to do a fit check!
  • We are now sanitizing hands at the classroom door upon arrival since so many students are wearing gloves. This has helped to prevent all the stray gloves in our lost and found area!
Tuesday · 12.15.2020 · 6:30pm Via Zoom Presentation and discussion will focus on the supports and accommodations available during the hybrid and e-learning models for elementary and secondary students.

Ms. Blair's Classroom Highlight
The fabulous first graders in Mrs. Blair’s class have been extremely busy this week. The students took their MAP test for reading and math and it was so exciting to see the growth they have made since August. I am so proud of each and everyone of my students!

In Language Arts, we have been learning about long vowel sounds and how “super e” gives all of his power to the long vowel. We have also been learning about the genre of Drama and even practiced reading a play in small groups. They loved picking their character and practicing reading with expression. In writing, we have been practicing writing narratives using the transition words First, Next, Then and Last.

In Math, we just finished our graphing unit and continue to work on our number sense up to 120. The kids have enjoyed counting and moving with our videos. On Friday, our class got to meet an author viz zoom and learn about the process of writing and illustrating books. It was very cool!

Finally, we have really enjoyed being outside this week during this nice weather and have been secretly working on a surprise holiday gift!
Love,
Ms. Blair
