Memorial Service

Dear Friends,
This week on our confirmation Zoom call, we talked about the story of Jesus walking on water. It's a story we've all heard a number of times - Jesus sends the disciples off ahead of him while he remains and prays on the mountain. A storm begins and the disciples are frightened, especially when they see a figure walking towards them. Peter, the brave one, steps out of the boat to walk towards Jesus and at first it is going well. Then he gets scared (wouldn't we all?) and starts to sink into the water. We are told that "immediately" Jesus reached out his hand to Peter and says to him "
You of little faith...why did you doubt?"
I don't know about you all, but I have found myself having "little faith" more than a few times during the past few months. I have friends losing jobs, worried about bills, weddings being postponed, graduations and vacations being cancelled, and there doesn't seem to be a real "end" in sight. It has been hard for me not to pray with irritation and anger to God.
I find God responding by showing me joy in the midst of this uncertainty. My neighborhood in Chicago is full of sidewalk chalk, handwritten signs and notes and balloons, thanking those who go to work every day to help others. People are meeting their neighbors for the first time and forming connections with others they may have previously walked by. Most recently for me, a close friend of mine had her second baby. It was a scary time for her - she and her husband had to wear masks throughout the delivery, and they were only able to stay in the hospital for a short time. But when she got home, she sent us a video of her older son meeting his little brother. He reached out his hand, touched the newborn's head and said with a huge smile on his face, "it's my baby." God's love is everywhere, even when it seems hard to find.
These moments where Jesus is reaching out his hand to us shows me that He is still there and will continue to be. He knows we are going to doubt and be scared, we are not perfect. But there is an end to the storm and He will be with us throughout.

Hand and dish soap, deodorant, toothpaste, paper towels, toilet paper, spaghetti, pasta sauce, cereal, cooking oil, diapers, wipes, laundry detergent.

Pentecost Art Project for All
The Christian holiday of Pentecost, which is celebrated fifty days after Easter Sunday, commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ. This year the Day of Pentecost is Sunday, May 31st.
