2019 Quechua Alliance Meeting is this weekend!

It is not too late to register for the 2019 Quechua Alliance Meeting! This event aims to promote an exchange of ideas between Quechua speakers, community leaders, college students and professors who share an interest and passion for Quechua language and Andean culture. This is a space for young people to become dynamic leaders in the academic context where there is an increasing interest in Indigenous languages and cultures of the Americas. It will take place on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at The Ohio State University from 8:30 AM - 6:30 PM

Peace Corps Opportunities

The Peace Corps has current opportunities for qualified applicants with background and skills in key sectors. Peace Corps volunteers serve for 2 full years after graduation in one of 60+ countries, with many openings in Latin America. This fully funded program covers 3 months of pre-service training, monthly living stipends, health care, safety, and security protection. Returned volunteers are highly competitive for graduate school scholarships and for employment in many fields. The application process is also highly competitive. Each quarter, jobs to different countries are posted on their website. Ohio State's Peace Corps recruiter, Laura Joseph (peacecorps@osu.edu), can help you search for positions that match your skills and experience, and translate them into a strong application.

Area Studies Centers Conference Grant program now accepting proposals

The Ohio State University Area Studies Centers are accepting proposals from OSU faculty members for the OIA Area Studies Centers Conference Grants program. To further develop and enhance area studies research and dialogue at Ohio State, this grant competition seeks proposals for conferences focusing on the study of global issues from interdisciplinary, multi-regional perspectives. Brief pre-proposals are to be submitted online by January 3, 2020.

Sebastián Calfuqueo Aliste Visit

Sebastián Calfuqueo Aliste, a contemporary Mapuche artist from Chile, is the first artist in residency hosted by the K'acha Willaykuna Andean and Amazonian Indigenous Arts and Humanities Collaboration. This collaboration is an interdisciplinary Global Arts and Humanities Discovery Theme initiative committed to critical engagement with Indigenous cultures of Abya Yala (the Guna denominator for the American continent in its entirety). He will be with us from Nov. 18-22 for a week of workshops, performances, reflections, project support, and exploration.

The Center for Latin American Studies at The Ohio State University is seeking applications for fellowships for Summer 2020 and Academic Year 2020-2021 under the U.S. Department of Education's Title VI Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship program. These fellowships are available to all full-time undergraduate, graduate, and professional students at all levels and in any department who are pursuing a course of study which requires advanced foreign language and area studies training. We highly encourage that you attend one of our information sessions if you are considering applying for this fellowship.
