CELEBRATE THE PAST - PLAN FOR THE FUTURE

Dear Christos Community and Friends,

Christos has been journeying through its own Lenten Preparation and Easter Resurrection Story!  A bit of background information will explain why. In Spring 2019, we were surprised by a newly levied real estate tax assessment, and all appeals proved futile. This caused a serious  financial shortfall.  We told you of our financial needs and the Christos Community generously  contributed!  We are grateful for your commitment in prayer, volunteering and financial support.

In the Fall and early winter of 2019, Christos struggled with how to address staying  solvent in the face of its mortgage, debt incurred from borrowed funds to pay expenses, and  deferred maintenance on the property - along with the tax bill.   Additionally, Christos needed  funds for future ministry.  After much prayer, the Board was facing the stark and painful reality  that selling 1212 Holly Drive and renting space was the only financial solution available to  protect the future of Christos and its ministries including Tending the Holy.

At the same time, we all recognized that God has invited people to "Come Away" to this  prayer-soaked place for many years.  We prayed to discern whether selling was truly God's idea.   In the present cultural climate and pressure, we concluded there is a continuing and growing need  for this quiet oasis.  Selling held the potential to change what Christos has always been.  We were  truly at the end of what we could see as our options.

After the first of the New Year, an anonymous donor offered Christos a $60,000 gift to be a matching gift.  This gift plus  matching gifts allows Christos to pay off the mortgage, pay the line of credit to zero, and pay the  tax bill due in May.  We will be able to pay for significant deferred  maintenance for the building and property, bring forward additional  programming, and provide funding for  operations and opportunities.

We had planned to gather face-to-face at Christos in April.  COVID-19 has radically  altered that plan.  Therefore we share this amazing news with you in email form.  We think it is time to notice and celebrate God's faithfulness, blessings and invitations and be encouraged.

We hope we will be free to gather at Christos in early September. Christos was founded out of prayer and its first call was to support and encourage growing in love and intimacy with God. We still hear that call of God today and we hear the words of Isaiah 43:19,  "See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland." WATCH FOR MORE INFORMATION THAT WILL BE COMING SOON describing the opportunities for contributing matching funds.

Please mark your calendars for Sunday,  September 13 for an afternoon Community
and Friends Event as we Celebrate the Past and Plan for the Future.   Details will be provided a s plans are finalized. We look forward to seeing you there!

 With Deep Appreciation and Anticipation,
