John Saetta
Sunday, June 16

Thank you  to John Saetta who is substituting as our music leader while Nellwyn Beamon is on vacation. John is a local musician who has studied at the Eastman School Of Music in Rochester, NY and performed with the chorus of Oakland University, and Michigan Opera Theater in various staged productions at the Detroit Opera House. He has sung onstage with the "3 Mo' Tenors" and Mr. Luciano Pavarotti. Locally, John plays for Jolliff UMC for Sunday services. He is married and lives in Norfolk, VA with his husband.
Virginia Annual Conference
June 20 - June 23

Please be in prayer for all of those who are attending this year's Annual Conference in Roanoke from this Thursday, June 20, through Sunday, June 23. Pastor Melody Tanner will be leading the voting officials in tallying votes, and Russ Evett will be Ghent UMC's delegate, representing our church in all of the discussions and decisions being made.

GUMC Music Ministry
 
Summer Opportunities:
  • Gathering Jams  are monthly on second Sundays, year-round.  Bring an instrument and play along during the gathering part of our service at 9:45am. The next are July 14, and Aug. 11.
  • Lemonade and Hymns: Bring your camp chair and sing with us on the porch on Wednesdays July 10 and August 21 from 7:00 - 8:00pm. 
  • Pick-up choir: Show up at 9:00am and rehearse an easy anthem for the 10:00am service - Sundays, July 28 and August 25. No long-term commitments required!
  • Musical Offerings: All ages and talents are welcome to perform at GUMC. Let Nellwyn know if you are willing to help.
Resuming in the fall:
  • Choir rehearsals are Wednesdays at 7pm in the sanctuary and everyone is invited to join the choir. Rehearsals will resume in September. Let Nellwyn Beamon know that you will be attending, so she knows to let you in the building.
  • Organist Spencer Koger will return in the fall to play for worship services monthly.

The Judicial Council of the United Methodist Church, which is like the Supreme Court, met April 23-25, 2019 in Evanston, Illinois. VA Conference Bishop Peter Weaver has issued a letter in response to the Judicial Council's rulings pertaining to the 2019 General Conference. Today, we celebrate all men who are reflecting Jesus to their families, community, and the world.  We honor scoutmasters, sponsors of youth organizations, big brothers, coaches, and mentors. Thank you for providing guidance to children over the years.

  • Our Radical Small Group study has concluded. Be on the lookout for a future great class in the fall.

Save the Dates 
  • Leadership Team meetings are on 3rd Sundays. However, the June 16th and July  21st leadership team meetings are being rescheduled.  In lieu of those two meetings, we will have 1 leadership team meeting on Sunday, June 30, following worship in the church library. All are welcome to attend this meeting in the church library.
  • Stakeholders meetings are once a month on Thursdays at 8am. The next meeting will be on Thursday, June 27.
     
  • Messy Church at Ghent UMC for all ages is 2nd Sunday of each month from 4:30 - 6pm in our social hall. Dinner will be served. The next one will be Sunday, July 14. The theme is "Everything Worships God." Attendees and volunteers:  Please RSVP by clicking here.We need a count for dinner. For more info, click here. Suggested donation is $5 for individuals and $10 for families. 
Congregational Care
Jennifer Gross-Statler

In response to Christ's call to love one another, we want the members of our congregation to care for one another. 
Jennifer Gross-Statler, our  Director of Congregational Care and Marketing,  works closely with Pastor Melody and our members to meet the care needs of our congregation, including the coordination of visits in homes, at hospitals and in facilities, as needed and requested. To learn more about Congregational Care at Ghent UMC, and other ways you can help, click on our church's website here .
