Directory Distribution in 2020

With COVID 19 and the closure of businesses, attractions, events and studios, we have been faced with a new challenge - the distribution of our 2020 Arts Directory and Map.
For this year, 8000 - 10,000 will be delivered with the Highlander across Haliburton County and the remainder distributed to businesses, tourist attractions and studios as they open.
Please call our office if you would like some for your location.
April Gates and Dear Friends,
We invite you to Schoolhouse/5, a Vintage & Fine-Craft pop-up Market featuring the work of local artists & collectors this August long weekend.
It's hard to believe, but it's Blackbird Pottery's 5th Anniversary at the Donald Schoolhouse. Despite the strangeness of our times, we're keen to connect, share & celebrate our passions with you.
You'll find beautiful pottery, woodwork, jewelry, sexy masks, fine art, vintage goodies and more! Exhibitors include Lisa Barry & Matt Mihlik of Homestead Pottery, Samantha Vanderwyst, Rod Prouse, Leslie Howchin of Moth Jewelry (Saturday only), Collin Burke of Russel Red Productions, and hostess April Gates of Blackbird Pottery and her alter ego, Vintage Huntress!
Our safe & joy-filled COVID compliant outdoor market experience is yours to enjoy. Entrance will be limited to stay within safety guidelines. Exhibitors will be spaced at an appropriate distance to best accommodate physical distancing. All guest exhibitors will be outdoors, with the exception of Blackbird Pottery who will be between the studio and outdoor area.
Please note Schoolhouse/5 is Friday & Saturday only, from 10-4.
Follow Blackbird Pottery on Facebook for sneak peeks and updates. We hope to see you soon!!
  Most sincerely,
April

Hello Arts Council Members,
We are pleased to announce that we are introducing a new project called Spotlight on the Arts which is an opportunity to promote our working artists in all mediums and arts organizations and businesses. Each month, we will profile a member on our social media sites sharing some information about them or their organization and displaying images of their art.
It is our privilege to work with all of you and we are pleased to be able to promote you and the work you do.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Since occupancy for classes has been reduced to 4, I came up with a way to gather, share and learn with lots of distance and fresh air. These are some photos of how I made it work at Boathouse Studio.

For the past few weeks I have been working on Paddles. Here is my latest: The Mystic Moose Paddle.
Where do I start in describing this project? A commission to design a moose paddle with an antler extended off the paddle. A 3-dimensional look, kinda like my very first Fish Paddle. My first thought was Ya Sure I can do that!!
I cropped and printed out the reference image. Taped it to the paddle to ensure the paddle style and design work well together. Then I created the antler from a pine board. Once happy with the look I drilled holes to insert my dowels to help secure it to the paddle.  Who said an artist needed so many tools!
When I paint my wildlife Paddles I like to start with the eyes. I consider it the focal point for these paddles. Once done i protect them with two coats of varnish.
This Mystic Moose is now in its forever home on Salerno.
Next up another paddle request - The Canadian Leaf across 3 paddles. What fun!
Keep on Creating, j
This summer I've moved painting class to the outdoors.
