Bishops Emergency Disaster Fund - Hurricane Ida
Collection Date weekend of September 25/26
While we watched from a distance the immense destruction and damage across eight states caused by Hurricane Ida, Catholic Charities USA and its local agencies have been hard at work on the ground.
Their efforts are not possible without the support from the people of God. Despite the ongoing pandemic and the recent appeal for Haiti, Archbishop José Gomez, being confident of our people's generosity and care, calls on our Catholic communities to once again "take up a voluntary special collection for the humanitarian, long- term recovery, and significant Church needs arising from these calamities."
The funds collected in this appeal will be part of the Bishops Emergency Disaster Fund and will be used to support reconstruction needs of the Church as well as relief efforts in response to "the hurricane and the impact of subsequent flooding and tornados and any other disasters that occur and will be distributed where they are most needed."
