State of Arkansas

Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson said that 791 new cases of COVID-19 were detected in the last 24 hours in the state. This brings the state's cumulative cases to 41,559.

Of the 41,559 cases, 6,580 are considered active with 77 in nursing homes, 319 in correctional facilities and 6,184 in the community.

When it came to today's cases, 32 were detected in correctional facilities and 759 were detected in the community at large. Counties with the highest number of new cases today included Pulaski County with 73 additional cases and Garland County with 44 new cases.

Hutchinson said the results of 5,598 COVID-19 tests were returned in the last 24 hours. This brings the state's testing total to 181,456, short of its 200,000 goal for July.

There were four fewer hospitalizations today, bringing the total hospitalized to 504. Of that number, 101 are on ventilators.

There were also eight more deaths in the state, bringing the total to 442.

Among today's announcements were that the state is eliminating its testing requirement for patients about to undergo elective surgery. From this point forward, testing for COVID-19 will be a decision made by the physician or medical institution.

It was also announced that the Arkansas Center for Health Improvement will be making the number of active cases on a city level available on its website.
