Façade Rebate Program

 
  Update the façade of your building with the help of the Façade Rebate Program. Eligible projects within the SSA territories can receive up to $6,000 or 60% in funds for improvements.

GOVERNMENT & BUSINESS AFFAIRS

Minimum Wage Increase

The City of Chicago Minimum Wage will increase to $13.00 per hour on July 1st.  All tipped employees will increase to $6.40 per hour.  Businesses - Please adjust your payrolls to reflect these increases.

Gas and Cigarette Tax Increase

Governor J.B. Pritzker's $45 billion package for transportation and other construction and developments was approved June 1st. He is expected to sign the bill. Both cigarette and gas taxes will increase to help raise money for the bill.

Gas taxes will increase from 19 cents per gallon to 38 cents per gallon (beginning in July). Cigarette taxes will increase as well from $1.98 per pack to $2.98 per pack. Both tax proposals are some of the highest in the country.
ChibizHub is a new online platform build by the City of Chicago to help connect small businesses with service providers.
19th District Community Alternative Policing Strategies (CAPS)

The 44th Ward is served by the 19th District (bounded by Lawrence, Lake Shore Drive, Fullerton, and the Chicago River). Each police district is divided in beats, and each beat has a team of beat officers assigned to it. Police representatives from these teams and local community leaders conduct the CAPS meetings. Northalsted's Pride Fest is this Saturday and Sunday in Boystown! More information can be found here.

The 19th annual two-day street festival is held the weekend leading up to the Chicago Pride Parade and celebrates LGBTQ+ life, culture and community. The festival features live music by popular artists, four stages, food and drink, 100+ arts/craft and merchant vendors, DJs and dancing, drag shows, pet parade, Out At Wrigley National Anthem Singing Contest, sponsor booths and more.

WHEN: June 22 and 23, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

WHERE: Boystown on Halsted from Addison to Grace St.

STREET CLOSURES: Halsted Street between Addison and Grace will close at 9 a.m. on Friday, June 21, and will reopen on Monday, June 24, at 4 a.m.  Street closures will also impact Waveland between Halsted and Broadway, as well as Bradley Place.
Parking restrictions will be in effect from 8 a.m. Friday, June 21, through 4 a.m. Monday, June 24, on the following streets:
800-858 W. BRADLEY PL.
744-820 W. WAVELAND AVE.
732-847 W. GRACE ST.
3600-3768 N. HALSTED

Vehicles left on the street will be ticketed and towed at owner's expense.
No access to Halsted Street surface parking lots or parking garages (this includes Halsted Flats)
beginning Friday, June 21 at 11:59 p.m through Monday, June 24, at 4 a.m.
The Whole Foods parking lot will remain open for customers, with access on Waveland west of Halsted during regular operating hours.
 
The Field Museum is bringing back it's ever popular pride event: Slushies & Science! On Tuesday, June 25th, Field Museum scientists are taking over Sidetrack for an evening of cocktails, curiosities, and the science of sex and gender. General admission includes 1 drink ticket, taco bar, and an exclusive behind the scenes look into what our Field Museum scientists are up to. This event is hosted by Outfielders, the LGBTQ affinity group of the Field Museum. Cost is $20. Purchase tickets here.

For the second year, Shake Shack will be launching a Pride Shake - a cake batter shake topped with rainbow glitter sprinkles (starting at $5.69). The shake will be available for the month of June at all US locations (excluding stadiums, ballparks, transit centers and airports).
