Thank you to all who attended and supported the 109th Installation & Awards Dinner of your Escondido Chamber of Commerce last Friday evening at the California Center of the Arts. It was a stylish affair where we gathered to salute the individual achievements over the last year of the people who make our Community great. In attendance were elected officials and Chamber member's from all disciplines and their spouses, sons and daughters or significant others. This was an opportunity for me to meet many new locals and make new friends. This is no secret but, the Chamber has deep roots in this Community and over the years has contributed greatly to Escondido. Friday night we honored them as well as many new folks who are continuing the tradition of caring and giving back to Escondido.

The Chamber's Board plays a vital role in setting policy, strategy, fiscal oversight and so much more to the Chamber, and all voluntarily giving of their time and experience. It's a huge commitment and a great resource to me.

June Wake Up Escondido

Wake Up Escondido gives you a chance to mix, mingle and network with Chamber Members and Business Leaders as you enjoy breakfast at this dynamic monthly event. Your business will have the opportunity to highlight its achievements and services to a group of gathered professionals from various industries.
This month, Our theme is something that has become somewhat synonymous with Escondido - the automotive industry. Whether that be the many car dealerships, the multitude of auto repair and fabrication businesses, or your every day car wash. Face it - Escondidoans love their cars!
We'll be joined by a guest speaker from AAA (Automobile Club of Southern California) discussing the various ways "they're always with you", and a variety of table sponsors including E&J Metal Supply, Gosch Ford, Henson's Fix Auto, and Frontwave Credit Union. Saluting REINS, the 75th Assembly
District's Non-Profit of the Year
On June 5, I joined 119 State Senators and Assemblymembers on the South Lawn of the Capitol as we participated in the 4th annual California Nonprofits Day to recognize and honor the nonprofits that do so much to improve our communities and enhance the lives of thousands of Californians.
This year I was very pleased to recognize REINS Therapeutic Riding of Fallbrook as my Nonprofit of the Year. Led by Executive Director Deborah Shinner and Program Director Shauna Jopes, over the last 35 years REINS has become the largest therapeutic riding program in San Diego County and is ranked among the top 3% of Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International programs.
Therapeutic horseback riding benefits a wide variety of disabling conditions including, cerebral palsy, autism, Down syndrome, head injuries, hearing and visual impairment, seizure disorders, speech and learning disabilities, and many more. Serving almost 200 students with a herd of 20 "equine therapists," REINS therapy can improve mobility, balance and coordination, increase motor skills and enhance self-esteem.

A's, B's & O's Disappearing From Major Brands - Red Cross Seeks Missing Types
This month, the American Red Cross launches the Missing Types campaign to raise awareness for lifesaving blood donations and urge the public to
make an appointment to give blood or
platelets this summer.
During the Missing Types campaign, the letters A, B and O - the letters representing the main blood groups - are disappearing from brands, social media pages, signs and websites to illustrate the critical role blood donors play in helping patients. When the letters A, B and O vanish from everyday life, the gaps are striking. And when A, B, O and AB blood types go missing from hospital shelves, patient care and medical treatments are affected.
Blood transfusion is the fourth most common inpatient hospital procedure in the U.S. Blood can only come from volunteer blood donors, yet only 3 out of 100 people in the U.S. give blood. That's simply not enough to help patients who need transfusions.
"Just last month, the Red Cross experienced a critical shortage of type O blood. When this happens, medical procedures could be delayed because blood products are not available," said Cliff Numark, senior vice president, Red Cross Blood Services. "That's why we are asking those eligible to help fill the missing types by making a donation appointment today. Don't wait for the letters A, B and O to go missing from hospital shelves again."
