This spring, the T.E.A.C.H. D.C. program launched our updated website to further support our current and prospective scholars and sponsoring employers. With the support of the District of Columbia's Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), the T.E.A.C.H. D.C. program has included all essential documents for current scholars, and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for prospective scholars and employers in both English and Spanish. Staff photos and biographies are also now available.

T.E.A.C.H. D.C. Participates in OSSE's "Month of the Young Child" Celebration

In conjunction with OSSE, the T.E.A.C.H. D.C. team participated in this year's "Month of the Young Child" series throughout the month of April. On April 1, Jasmine McCoy-Hadnot and Lindsay Bryant served as volunteer readers at the Edward C. Mazique Parent Child Center, Inc. as part of OSSE's Read Across DC event, which is designed to promote early language and literacy development among infants, toddlers, and preschoolers in the District of Columbia. Later that month, the T.E.A.C.H. D.C. team also participated in OSSE's Adult College Completion Fair: Early Childhood Edition and Child Care Leaders' Summit and Networking Event: Advancing Excellence in Early Childhood Education. At these events, the T.E.A.C.H. D.C. team shared information about our scholarship program with early care and education professionals, including teachers, home child care providers, and center directors, across the city.

A project of the National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI), the T.E.A.C.H. D.C. program deeply values our continued partnership with OSSE as we work to improve the education, training, compensation, and stability of the early learning workforce to ensure the long-term success of infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and families in the District of Columbia.

T.E.A.C.H. D.C. Launches Scholar Mentorship Program

The T.E.A.C.H. D.C. program is launching a mentorship program for current scholars. The T.E.A.C.H. D.C. Early Childhood® Mentorship Program is designed to equip scholars with the knowledge, tools, and skills to ensure their professional success in the early care and education workforce. Throughout the program, scholars will meet with their mentor on a monthly basis to engage in various discussions and activities, including self-reflection and -discovery, interest and skill assessments, and career pathway exploration and readiness.

In addition to program graduates, we seek to engage a network of diverse and experienced professionals in the field of early childhood education in the District of Columbia to serve as mentors for our scholars. Mentors will share their expertise to assist scholars with vision casting, setting and achieving professional goals, and making sound career decisions.
