Sisters and Brothers,

As I have mentioned during announcement time in worship, we have had an unusually high number of illnesses and surgeries this year. In fact, we've sent out flowers to more parishioners in just the past three weeks than we did throughout all of last year. Frankly, it can become difficult to keep up with who is having what surgery when. (And some of our folks have had more than one surgery!) We rejoice that most of these surgeries have been successful and that our sisters and brothers are on the road to recovery. But others have not been so lucky. Some have been experiencing lingering and long-term struggles. Some are facing a prolonged period of recovery.

Perhaps like me, you can list off at least a hand-full of folks who remain in your heart and on your mind. And perhaps also like me you intend to follow up with them to see how they are doing and you end up getting side-tracked with other things on your agenda. I'd like to urge all of us to pause for a moment and consider who we've been missing. Who have we not seen in a while? Who is sick? Who is recovering?

Perhaps this would be a good time to reinforce the understanding that caring for one another is all of our responsibility. Reach out to these folks and remind them that they are loved. Pray for them. Send them a card. Take over a casserole. Be a brother or sister or just a good neighbor. Let folks know that you do care. It'll mean a lot to them. And it will mean a lot to you too!

Como mencioné durante el tiempo de anuncio en la adoración, hemos tenido un número inusualmente alto de enfermedades y cirugías este año. De hecho, hemos enviado flores a más feligreses en las últimas tres semanas que durante todo el año pasado. Francamente, puede resultar difícil mantenerse al día con quién se realiza la cirugía y cuándo. (¡Y algunas de nuestras personas se han sometido a más de una cirugía!) Nos alegramos de que la mayoría de estas cirugías hayan tenido éxito y de que nuestras hermanas y hermanos estén en el camino de la recuperación. Pero otros no han tenido tanta suerte. Algunos han estado experimentando luchas prolongadas y prolongadas. Algunos se enfrentan a un período prolongado de recuperación.

Tal vez como yo, puedes enumerar al menos a una mano llena de personas que permanecen en tu corazón y en tu mente. Creating a Life With God
- Spiritual Practices
This month we began looking at the first of 9 different ways to pray. The first one we examined is Lectio Divina. The second one we looked at was the Jesus Prayer and participants created their own Jesus Prayer beads. This week we will look at the spiritual practice and prayer of Examine.

Our classes take place after a bit of fellowship. Our study will be based on the book Creating a Life with God by Daniel Wolpert.

A New Altar!

For many years a new altar has been on our "liturgical wish-list." The Vestry is happy to announce that we are finally getting one. Estimates for having a custom-made altar similar to the one in this photo built are about $4000 to $6000. This is well above what we felt we could feasibly afford.

We are happy to announce that Salvador Lopez, one of our own parishioners, is willing to carve a new altar for a fraction of the normal cost. Salvador is already hard at work and we hope to have the altar completed and ready to be uses before the fall.

If you would like to help underwrite the cost of our new altar, please speak to Fr. Dewayne. Once the altar is completed, we will have it consecrated by the bishop. The names of those who contribute toward the altar will be included in the dedication.

Un Nuevo Altar!

Durante muchos años, un nuevo altar ha estado en nuestra "lista de deseos litúrgicos". La junta parroquial se complace en anunciar que finalmente obtendremos una. Due to the recent demands on the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma (Flood Victims, Increase in Homeless population etc. ) and the changes to the program (classification for our pantry in the system), the availability of some common goods is very limited. Due to these restrictions, we are needing help with providing some items to our customers. Can you help us with the following items:

The Vestry is selling raffle tickets to win a beautiful red 7 quart cast iron dutch oven retailed at $145 AND a sea salt popcorn tin. Tickets for the dutch oven are $2 each and there will be 3 numbers drawn to win the popcorn tin - tickets are $1 each.

The drawing will be held Sunday July 28, 2019 after mass. See any member of the Vestry to purchase tickets. All the items are donated and all the proceeds benefit St. Jerome.

We will start collecting items however it will be another month or two before she is able to take them.

the St. J's Tabletop Gamers!

St. J's Tabletop Gamers is open to persons 16 years of age or older. Beginners are not only welcome, but celebrated. There is no charge for game play this summer thanks to a generous donor, but we will "pass the plate" for donations to St. Jerome's. We hope you will join us!

Thursday's at 7:00pm. Bring your favorite game, a friend, and a snack to share! St. Jerome's is a place of welcome for all people of goodwill!
