Do I need a permit for that?
Doing some home renovations? Before you get started, make sure you check with the City of Bryan’s Development Services Department to see if you need a permit to do the work.

Why? Building permits ensure the work is done in a safe manner and that the improvements are built to city-approved construction standards. No matter what the specific job may be, the enforcement of building codes protects public health and safety for construction projects and protects the investment you have in your home.
Check out the FY2021 Proposed Budget
City of Bryan staff members and elected officials are hard at work on the FY2021 Proposed Budget, which ensures city services are maintained while continuing good stewardship of taxpayer dollars. The public hearing on the FY2021 Proposed Budget is on Aug. 25. Look for details on how to participate in the public hearing as the date comes closer.

In-person Census follow-up begins soon
Census takers begin visiting homes this week to help households who haven’t filled out their Census yet. Non-response follow-up begins Aug. 11, and the deadline for completing the Census has been moved up a whole month to Sept. 30.

Save the Census takers a trip, and complete your Census at my2020census.gov. It only takes about 5-10 minutes, and your response helps ensure Bryan remains a thriving community for years to come.
Clear the Shelters Day is Aug. 29 (free adoptions!)
The Bryan Animal Center is participating in the annual nationwide Clear the Shelters event, and that means you can adopt a new furry family member for free from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 29!

Adoptions will be on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you are interested, make sure you complete an adoption application before the event.

3 things you didn't know about Coulter Airfield
If you think Coulter Airfield is just an airport, then you don’t know the real Coulter. It is so much more than just hangars, planes and asphalt. Since Aug. 19 is National Aviation Day, we thought we’d share three things you might not know about Bryan’s general aviation airport.

Communications Department receives national award
Social media is one of the ways the City of Bryan strives to keep residents informed of what's going on in the city. Recently, the City of Bryan's Communications & Marketing Manager, Kristen Waggener, was named the Social Media Professional of the Year by the Government Social Media Organization. This honor shows that Bryan's Communications Department works hard to provide important information in a timely manner.

COVID-19 community resources
Information is available for residents seeking information and assistance related to the COVID-19 response:

Blue Duck Scooters are back in Bryan. While you're out enjoying a ride through Downtown, remember to be a considerate rider. Stay in bike lanes, on the street or on shared-use paths, but do not ride on sidewalks. And don't forget your helmet! Remember the rules of the road before you ride.
