ALL CHURCH WOMEN'S LUNCH
Wednesday, August 14th at 12:00 pm

Please join us for an All Church Women's lunch on Wednesday, August 14th at 12:00 pm. We will meet  at Carolyn Hohne's home which is located at 269 Crest Drive, Idaho Springs, CO 80452.  We will meet at the church to carpool at 11:15 am. Please sign up on the Fellowship Hall list and indicate if you want to carpool and what food item you will bring.

Anyone who would like to hike the St. Mary's Glacier trail should meet at Carolyn's house at 9:00 am.  This will allow a nice, slow, leisurely pace.  The trail (3/4 mile - 1.5 miles round trip)  is considered an easy hike, but it gains quite a bit of elevation in that short distance (400ft).  Carolyn promises to take LOTS of breaks to catch your breath on the way up (it's over 10,000ft).  The hike down is easy!  You will be rewarded with a BEAUTIFUL mountain lake.....the ability to touch snow (if you want to)......a nice down-valley view of Mt. Evans and other mountain ranges...and the satisfaction that "you did it!".  Anyone hiking should consider hiking shoes or good sturdy sneakers and bring water.

Contact Jeanne Ambrosier at rjambro@estreet.com with any questions.

"This wouldn't have happened without Family Promise."
-Lanelle, single dad

Lanelle and Mari moved into their new home yesterday and we
couldn't be happier for them! Lanelle has committed to staying engaged with Family Promise in our Home Program. This continued support will allow Lanelle to properly heal from a much needed surgery that had been delayed for several months due to their housing instability. We could not be more excited for this little family as they
transition from surviving to thriving. We are grateful to walk alongside them as they continue to work on their goals.

These success stories are only made possible with your support!
Thank you to each volunteer and donor who makes our work possible.
You are impacting the lives of children and parent like Mari and Lanelle.

WESLEY HERITAGE TOUR ENGLAND 2020
WITH BISHOP KAREN OLIVETO
"I am not afraid that the people called Methodists should ever cease to exist either in Europe or America. But I am afraid lest they should only exist as a dead sect, having form of religion without the power."
- John Wesley
Bishop Karen Oliveto invites all lay and clergy on a journey to explore our Wesleyan Heritage. The trip will take place April 13-21, 2020. During these anxious times for those of us called United Methodists there is no better way to respond than returning to our roots and deeply immersing ourselves in the rich history of our movement. Tour historic places like the York Minster Cathedral, Epworth, Christ Church College, and Bristol. Time in London will lead you to Aldersgate Street, where you too may have a heartwarming experience. Come celebrate and learn about our unique Wesleyan Heritage and the people called Methodists.  The price for the 9 day trip starts at $3,500.  For more information go to the Educational Opportunities website {they are the tour company} & type in the heading of this article as the tour name.

LOOKING FOR SOMEONE IN JULY TO ASSIST IN A DOG WALKING MINISTRY NEED WITH CANDY HASTEDT
We have been assisting a local woman who has been unable to walk her dog due to health issues. We anticipate her recovery by the end of July.  The dog has a dog run, but Krista would like Huwey to get a daily walk.  Candy Hastedt has graciously been doing this 3 days a week, and we're looking for someone to do an additional couple of days -- your choice of time.  Candy reports the 40 lb dog is gentle and walks well.  This is in the Bear Mountain area just off Little Cub Creek Rd.  Please contact Pastor Deb if you could help {and get a bonus of some exercise, too}.

OUR NEW CHURCH WEBSITE IS NOW LIVE

ECHO SUMMER LUNCH PROGRAM

UMCE has been given the privilege again this year to prepare meals for the EChO clients and volunteers the last week in June, July and August. Our remaining dates will be July 22 & 24 and August 26 & 29.

Last year we prepared food for approximately 400 people during the summer months, and received very sincere appreciation from EChO. The ECho lunch program was started in 2010, and since then five area churches have been taking part in this program from September through May. Last year was the first time the lunch program was continued during the summer months. For some people, this is the only meal they might receive that day.

If you would like to donate the needed groceries for this cause, please mark your contribution for the EChO Summer Lunch Program.  If you have any questions, please contact Ruthanne Huber at 303-870-7322.

MINISTRY JOTTINGS BY PASTOR DEB

Profound Simplicity

"Better one handful with tranquility than two handfuls with toil and chasing after the wind." -- Ecclesiastes 3:12-13

In his book, "Profound Simplicity", Will Schutz describes three progressive levels of thinking. The first stage, simplistic, is an immature process that usually lacks or ignores difficult but vital information. This kind of thinker addresses only the superficial elements of problems. They accept and speak in clichés because they have not thought reflectively.

The second stage of thinking is what Schutz calls complexity. These thinkers often gather so many details that they cannot organize it into one encompassing statement. By failing to pick out significant information, this thinker is often sidetracked by details. Have you ever asked somebody a simple question only to get a twenty minute lecture?

The third way of thinking is what Schutz called profound simplicity. In this phase, thinkers have pondered the problem or subject long and deep enough to know what is truly essential. They have discarded interesting, though extraneous data to allow the gravity of truth to become apparent (which is neither simplistic nor overly complex). This is the finest, most mature kind of thinking. It is essentially what we have often called "wisdom," which comes after years of experience.

For example, the great theologian Karl Barth, author of more than sixty volumes of theology, was once asked "Sir, what is the most profound thought you've ever had." The reporter was ready to back down from asking this question when he realized it was somewhat ridiculous to ask this of a man of such knowledge. But Barth said, "Yes, I do have a reply. Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so." Near the end of his life, Robert Frost, the poet, was asked a similar question. Frost said, "Life goes on." I didn't think these anecdotes were profound when I first read them when I was younger. Amazingly, the longer I live, the more profound they seem to me.

Blessings,
Pastor Deb
