Letter from the PTA Presidents

It has been an honor to serve the Puesta del Sol community. Thank you to all the volunteers, parents, staff, and administration for serving tirelessly to continue our PTA programs and events. We are grateful to all our donors for the funding that benefits all our students through classroom experiences (field trips), classroom/library materials, after school programs, cultural experiences from our SITA program, Amity Interns, events such as International Festival, Walkathon, Field Day, Pumpkin Bash, and Movie Nights; to name a few.

The Puesta del Sol PTA has a strong tradition of programs that enhance our students' learning both academically and culturally which create a greater depth in learning for their Spanish immersion experience. Thank you to our volunteers for after-school programs, Passport Club, Math Olympiad, Art Appreciation, Science Fair, Academic Challenge, Garden Club, Reflections, and SITA who have helped continue this strong tradition which is unique to our community.

Finally, we are so grateful to our  6 Amity interns; Ana, Pablo, Gabriel, Marta, Natalia, and Laura. You have all brought so much joy and enthusiasm to our students and enhanced their learning through your cultural exchange of knowledge and traditions. We wish you the best of luck as you continue your professional careers! Please keep in touch.

We have hundreds of volunteers that make our school a head above the rest. We are proud of the accomplishments and look forward to continued strength into the next year.

Wishing you all a restful and safe summer break!
Gratefully yours,
Anne Wilson and Grace Muro-Aje

Our Garden Needs You!

The Puesta del Sol school garden is one of the best in the district, and we want to keep it looking great over the summer! Your family can sign up to water and harvest as many times as you like, the time commitment is about 45min -1hr for each watering session. After you sign up, you'll receive written directions with pictures - it's easy and a nice dose of nature over the summer! Go to our  Summer Watering sign up  to grab a spot! The PTA thanks you for your time!
PTA Awards

The PTA acknowledged some of our amazing students at the PTA awards assembly last week. 74 students participated in the Academic Challenge program this year and earned the Trophy level by completing rigorous challenges in 5 of the 7 categories. 29 of these students completed challenges in all 7 categories to achieve the Principal's Award.

In Passport Club, 27 students achieved level 5 every month plus they completed 9 special itineraries. They learned 195 countries, 40 capitals, all the continents and oceans, and the major seas, deserts, and mountain ranges plus delved deeper into at least 9 countries throughout the year.

For Math Olympiad, 22 students participated. These students finished 24 lessons with numerous homework hours which culminated in a Math Competition with other elementary schools and middle schools. All six groups of students received a medal for superior performance on Section 1 and one team earned a ribbon for their performance on Section 2.

In the Reflections Art contest. We had 100 participants. There were 24 students who's artwork advanced to the district level with an additional 2 advancing to the State level.

Congratulations to these students for all their hard work!  We hope even more will participate next year.

At the recent PTA General Membership meeting we appointed a new Director of Fundraising, Jaime Treat. We are excited for the year ahead to develop a fundraising plan to cover all our amazing programs.
Thank You Teachers!

Many thanks to all our wonderful staff who contributed to the Volunteer Appreciation Dinner last week. The food was delicious, the decorations were fantastic, the thank you cards from the students were fabulous, and the company of our beloved teachers was the best gift we could have asked for! It's been a great year. Thank you for helping us celebrate!
Our PTA Achieved Bronze Membership Growth Award!

Our Puesta del Sol PTA achieved Bronze status for our membership growth in the Washington State PTA this year by increasing the number of our PTA members compared to last year with 396 PTA registered members.  Congratulations Puesta del Sol PTA! Let's do it again next year - and maybe shoot for Silver status!
Thanks for Answering the Call!

Thank you to all the amazing volunteers who have answered the call to help lead our PTA programs next year. You can find a list of willing chairs on our  Committees page  on the website.  When you see them around school, make sure to thank them and please offer them support next year if you can.
  Debbie Hinton   Staff Spotlight:

¡Adios,  Sra. Hinton!

Come Back to See Us Soon!

After 29 years, our beloved Sra. Hinton is taking her leave from Puesta del Sol and is retiring from full-time teaching. She is best known for being the "strict" 2nd grade teacher but when her students figure out her sense of humor after a month or so of school, they find her to be kind and supportive. When asked if she will be back, she said maybe she will be back to substitute teach after some time off. For now, she plans to relax and enjoy retirement and spend more time with her grandchildren. We will miss you, Sra. Hinton. Thank you for your love and care of our students for so many years.

Our PTA programs don't run themselves and our program chairs and committees need help to get the job done.

Step up and serve!  Our students deserve your support!
