Opportunity to Change Learning Option for Students in Kindergarten and Up
Families with students in kindergarten through eighth grade should have received a message from Paula Sharpe on Monday, offering the opportunity to change your child's learning option from on-campus to home learning or the reverse. If you would like to keep your child's current option, you do not need to do anything. If you would like to make a change, please submit this form by January 15. Any changes will be in effect starting on February 1 and continue for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year. Please contact Paula Sharpe with any questions!

January Updates - Back to School & Weekly Testing

First and foremost, we cannot thank you enough for your ongoing efforts and the sacrifices you make each day to keep our community healthy as COVID-19 rates have spiked throughout the country as a result of holiday gatherings and travel. We look forward to seeing our students in person on Monday - we absolutely could not do this without you!

As you know, we are asking that all staff members and students submit a negative result from a COVID-19 test taken on or after January 4 before returning to campus. Results must be received by Nurse Kathy by Sunday, January 10, at 5 p.m., for your child to attend school on Monday, January 11.

For at least the remainder of January, we will continue to require weekly testing for students and staff. Again, we recommend testing between Monday and Wednesday each week so that results can be submitted to Nurse Kathy before 5 p.m. each Sunday. This is another way we prioritize the health and safety of our community. It is an important precaution based on the predicted increase of the spread of COVID-19 after the holidays.

As always, WMS will continue to take other precautions as we return to campus - mask-wearing requirements, daily health screenings, physical distancing, enhanced cleaning protocols and as much outdoor time as possible. Please don't hesitate to contact Nurse Kathy with any questions about your child's health and read on to see upcoming local testing opportunities.
COVID-19 Testing Events

As you know, WMS is requiring that all students and staff are tested for COVID-19 weekly at least through the end of January. Results should be sent to Nurse Kathy for your child's health records by Sunday at 5 p.m. each week.

The many State of Delaware-sponsored COVID-19 testing sites offer free and convenient opportunities for free testing for Delaware residents. COVID-19 testing is a simple and fast process. The inside of the mouth is swabbed, which is minimally invasive, unlike the nasal swabbing that you may have seen or heard of in the news. Results are typically available in 24 to 72 hours.

Convenient testing is part of a public health initiative that is providing information regarding the incidence of COVID-19 in the state. It is possible that you or a member of your family may be infected and spreading COVID-19 without showing symptoms. This is particularly true with children. With your cooperation, we can help stop the spread of COVID-19.
