New playground brings fun activities to Memorial Park
|

The 70s theme will fit in with the future construction of Heritage Trail, which will include a timeline of Round Rock’s history along the trail.

Get involved — apply for a City board or commission
|
Applications must be submitted to the
City Clerk
by 5 p.m. Monday, July 15. Appointments will be made by the
City Council
at its regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, Aug. 8.
Boards and commissions are a great way to get involved in local government and cover a wide variety of topics.
Applicants must have been a resident of Round Rock for the last 12 consecutive months.

Dive into the World's Largest Swim Lesson
|
Taking part in formal swimming lessons plays an essential role in preventing drowning among children.
That's why Round Rock Parks and Recreation invites
residents to participate in the World's Largest Swimming Lesson event from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 20, at Rock’N River Water Park. This event is free and will be one of 600 taking place across the globe!
Registration for the event begins on site at 9 a.m., with a swimming lesson from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. followed by open swim until 11:30 a.m. Rock’N River will re-open to the public at noon with regular entry fees.

July 4th Parade features earlier start time this year
|
Giant helium inflatables, creative floats and marching bands will again take over Downtown Round Rock this year for the 2019 Sertoma July 4th Parade!
The 1.5-mile route runs north along Mays Street between Mays Crossing and U.S. 79, with a 9 a.m. start time to beat the summer heat.
Parking will be available in public garages and on streets; however, it is important to note that the route along Mays Street will remain closed before and after the parade. Visitors entering from west of Mays Street should enter downtown from Round Rock Avenue or McNeil Road. Visitors entering from east of Mays Street are encouraged to use Georgetown Street or South Burnet Street.

Your outdoor watering questions, answered
|

Spring showers have made way for hotter temperatures, with the first day of summer officially starting on June 21. Before you turn on the sprinklers, remember that watering once or twice a week is plenty in the summer. Deeper, less frequent watering allows roots to grow to their maximum depth, resulting in a more drought tolerant grass.
What are the City of Round Rock's designated outdoor watering days?
Residents with odd-numbered addresses may water on Wednesdays and/or Saturdays.
Residents with even-numbered addresses may water on Thursdays and/or Sundays.
How can I tell if my lawn needs watering?
Landscape can (and should) tolerate some stress; this helps build up its drought tolerance. If you walk across your lawn and still see your footprints after 15 seconds, then it needs water.
When is the best time to water?
Water before sunrise to avoid evaporation during the heat of the day. Avoid watering
on windy days as most of the water will be blown elsewhere. Wind speeds tend to be lower when the sun is down – another reason to water at night.
How much water does grass need?
Try to water grass to a depth of 4-6 inches to allow roots to grow deeper. It only takes 1 inch of water to penetrate to this depth. You can set up containers in your yard to monitor how much water is reaching the grass across your lawn.

Round Rock Express' 20th anniversary season under way

The Express were founded as a Double-A franchise in 2000 by Ryan Sanders Baseball, a group made up of Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan, his sons Reid and Reese, Houston businessman Don Sanders, and his sons Bret and Brad. Through a partnership with the City, Dell Diamond opened its doors and has consistently ranked among the best minor league ballparks in the nation since.
