An Invitation from Trinity Cathedral: The Welcome and Seating of our new Bishop

You are invited to Trinity Episcopal Cathedral for the Seating of our new Bishop, The Rev. Canon Megan Traquair, who will be consecrated the previous day. The seating of a bishop is an ancient ceremony in which the bishop is seated in the cathedra or the bishop's chair. The word cathedral is based on cathedra and the placement of this specific chair in this building is what makes Trinity, in this case, a cathedral. Bishop Megan will also be preaching and celebrating Holy Eucharist at this service.

Celebrating Bishop Barry in Redding

Just over 100 people attended the last diocesan celebration in Redding to honor the ministry of Bishop Barry.

The Very Rev. Richard Yale (above), announced that the diocese is gifting Bishop Barry and The Rev. Dr. Ann Hallisey a cruise on the Rhine next summer. Thank you to all who donated to give our bishop this gift!

Donate bikes and bike parts to help refugees - June 22 in Folsom

If you have an old bicycle, spare parts, helmets, locks, or bike tools that you no longer need, please consider donating them to help welcome newly-arrived refugees into metro Sacramento. Opening Doors, an agency that supports human trafficking survivors and refugees, has put out a call for bicycles, machines that can represent a way to get a job, go to school, receive medical care, and access community resources.

Please bring donations to Trinity (410 Wool St., Folsom) on Saturday, June 22 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. The bikes will be restored by Folsom Prison’s workshop, so that they’ll be riding like new when Opening Doors distributes them to their clients. If you have any questions, call Trinity’s Church office at (916) 985-2495.

Camp Fire gift cards for those struggling to make ends meet

St. John's, Chico, continues to be actively involved in helping folks impacted by the Camp Fire in Paradise. As a part of this work, the church is requesting gift cards that they can hand out to those who need assistance. Specifically, they have found that Safeway cards are the best as recipients can use them for either gas or groceries. The gift cards can be mailed directly to St. John’s, Chico (address below).

Sharing Carr Fire stories

We are stories of those impacted by the Carr Fire in Redding, which begun late July of last year and wasn't contained until over a month later, Aug. 30, 2018. As these "megafires" have a huge impact on the lives of those affected, we believe it is important that their stories are shared.

This week's story is available on the Episcopal Church Camp Fire Recovery Team Facebook page , as well as on the diocesan website .

Pilgrimage of Hope 'thank you' from San Joaquin Bishop Rice

"The Pilgrimage of Hope has been completed, that is, the 17 day, 225 mile walk from Fresno to Sacramento...

Buddhist and Christian meditation: Living and breathing on a common path

For over 25 years, the Pacific Center for Spiritual Formation has been offering this unique opportunity to experience both Buddhist and Christian contemplative practices, through brief instruction, extended periods of silent meditation practice, and generous time for unstructured quiet and solitude.

The Episcopal Church's Sacred Ground race series - what it is and why it matters

Sacred Ground is a sensitive, prayerful resource that creates space for difficult but respectful and transformative dialogue on race and racism. It invites participants to walk back through history in order to peel away the layers that brought us to today, reflecting on family histories and stories, as well as important narratives that shape the collective American story.

This Church-wide program invites members of each diocese to form a dialogue circle or circles in your congregation that would meet for 10 sessions to engage with the films, videos, written materials, and each other – a study group essentially. Learn more here.
