This Week at the Levitt Pavilion
June 27-30
All-female Grammy-winning mariachis make an Arlington stop on the Levitt National tour

Thursday:  Family Movie Night fans get an added bonus this week -- a book signing! The Netflix movie, Dumplin', which was released last year and stars Jennifer Anniston, is based on the New York Times best-selling Young Adult book written by Arlington's own Julie Murphy. Julie will be at the Levitt for the 8 p.m. showing of Dumplin'' and will sign books before and after the movie. Books will be available for purchase at the Levitt on movie night. Dumplin' follows an outspoken plus-sized teenage girl named Willowdean (Danielle Macdonald), who's known as "Will" to her friends and "Dumplin'" to her mother (played by Aniston), a former beauty queen who now runs the local Miss Teen Blue Bonnet pageant. In her small Texas town, Will confidently ignores comments about her weight and listens to Dolly Parton songs obsessively. But when she decides to enter her mother's pageant in protest, her bold move encourages other contestants to follow in her footsteps, redefining the town's traditions in the process. The movie is rated PG-13. The Levitt's Family Movie Nights are presented by Arlington Highlands.  The first 100 guests will receive gift cards from Family Movie Night sponsor, Arlington Highlands.

Friday: A Metroplex alt-country band with punk roots, The Vandoliers,
perform at 8 p.m. presented by FW Weekly. The Vandoliers put their own spin on the Texas country tradition with their 2016 debut album,
Ameri-Kinda, mixing honky-tonk twang with hard-edged, rock-n-roll stomp.

Saturday:  Mariachi performances are usually described as "traditional" or "iconic." Not so when the mariachis are the Grammy Award-winning, all-female mariachi sensations, Flor de Toloache, making an Arlington stop at 8 p.m. Their performance is part of the seven-city Levitt National Tour presented by Levitt Pavilions, the national organization of free music pavilions across the country. Named for the toloache flower widely known for its use in Mexican "love potions," Flor de Toloache, casts a spell over its audience with an electrifying evening of soaring vocals, plush harmonies, and genre-busting fusions of mariachi, jazz, salsa and pop. The New York-based ensemble continues to win the hearts of both contemporary and traditional mariachi music fans alike through their distinct artistic vision and sophisticated, fresh interpretation of mariachi classics. Led by co-directors, Mireya I. Ramos on violin and Shae Fiol on vihuela, Flor de Toloache has graced international stages from India to Paris and has toured extensively throughout the United States. Their much-anticipated third album, Indestructible, was released last month.

Sunday:  The Levitt wraps up the concert week with Austin-based Americana roots juggernauts and 2018 Grammy Award nominees, Wood & Wireat 8 p.m. presented by Republic Services. Their 2018 Grammy-nominated album for Best Bluegrass,
North of Despair, celebrates honest labor as its central theme with vivid, haunting songwriting melded with high-octane bluegrass instrumentation.
