Approved guaranteed maximum price for Northwest renovations, improvements
Trustees approved a guaranteed maximum price of $11.6 million for renovations and improvements at Northwest High School, which are scheduled for completion by the start of the 2020-21 school year.
Items included in the work are new baseball and softball fieldhouse as well as renovations for the Vernon Solomon Performing Arts Center, career and technical education spaces, and library. Voters approved this work as part of the 2017 bond package.
Demographic report shows district having top five-year growth in region
A report from Templeton Demographics showed continued growth for Northwest ISD, noted by the fact that the district had the top five-year growth in its region.
From the 2013-24 school year through the current 2018-19 school year, Northwest ISD saw an overall enrollment growth of 5,191 students, or 27.4 percent. This was the largest total enrollment growth in the Region 11 area; the next largest increases were at Denton ISD, which added 3,857 students, and Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD, which added 2,514 students.
This growth will continue for the far-term future, as Northwest ISD has 31,543 estimated future home lots (those that are not yet actively developed but are planned for future homes), the most in Region 11 by nearly 10,000. There are currently 1,851 annual new home starts (homes in the process of construction) and 2,978 vacant developed lots (lots ready for home construction).
Board sets officers
Trustees voted to select their officers for the current board term, with the following positions selected: Judy Copp as president, Anne Davis-Simpson as vice president and Lillian Rauch as secretary.
Electing officers is an annual practice that generally follows a scheduled board election.

- Recognized Prairie View and Seven Hills elementary schools for being named Leader in Me Lighthouse Schools.
- Recognized Byron Nelson High School’s Tammy McClure for receiving the State Advisor of the Year Award.
- Recognized Beck Elementary School and Chisholm Trail Middle School for being named Partners in Education Campuses of the Year.
- Recognized Thompson Elementary School’s Marcie Conrad for being named an HEB Lifetime Achievement Award finalist.
- Recognized CarrieAnn Jones for her service as president of the Northwest ISD Council of PTAs.
- Held the first special workshop regarding the 2019-20 school year budget, overviewing possible staff benefits and the effects of the recent Texas Legislature education bill.
- Passed a resolution reaffirming the trustees’ and district’s support of the Northwest ISD Education Foundation and its mission of raising funds for student scholarships and teacher grants.
- Approved an amendment with Reliant Transportation to adjust pricing based on the consumer price index increase and allow the company to use district buses for chartered uses when not needed for school-related purposes, providing the district with additional funds.
